Does anyone know how to go about connecting two laptops so that one will be running Traktor and the other works just as monitor?
Once this is accomplished I would then use three different controllers and me and another DJ. One of us with the vci-100 doing the main mixing between deck A and deck B while the other one, with my Lpd-8 and a crappy $100 controller thatn I can’t remember the name of, doing effects and dropping samples/acapellas/cue juggling.
Is this all do able do you think? I can figure out the second part, I just have no idea how to do the first part.
edit: after a bit of looking I found this:http://www.maxivista.com/
Has anyone used this before? Is there a better solution?
I don’t really understand what you’re trying to accomplish. 1 version of Traktor but both laptops controlling it? or literally just using a laptop as an external display?
Traktor doesn’t support multiple screens AFAIK. You could use third party apps like replikator or something like that, but if you do have two laptops why not just run two copies of Traktor and sync them to eachother?
the software you posted just shares the screen of the other laptop. It sounds like you wan to sync traktor between two computers.
If you want you just want one computer running traktor and the other computers to show traktor on their screen I think you just need two monitors and then mirror them from the main computer.
It would be nice to sync them and run two copies of Traktor but I don’t have an Audio 8 soundcard. Since I can’t do this, all I’m trying to do is use the second laptop as a mirror of the first. No functionality is required, it just needs to be a monitor. Hope this clears it up a bit…
@Keeb, I don’t have a monitor that’s small enough to carry around to gigs.
Im not sure if that is even possible because the 2nd laptop would interfere with the 2nd screen.
You should be able to pick up a 17" flatscreen cheap somewhere that would be round about the same size as a mixer and take up far less room behind a CDJ or something. If you are using Windows 7 it can be as easy as using a key on your keyboard to toggle on a ‘dublicate’ screen.
Think i replied to this on facebook, but if you buy the basic model ipad or have you … You can use a program called airdisplay and set up and ad hoc connection… I used this before when my lappy broke with a pc, its touch screen so you can select stuff on the main laptop too
I’ll lay it out like this for you: Most computers don’t have much of an option for video input, so running your display into another computer would be hard to do to start. If you did accomplish it (you would probably have to hook up another display, though you might be able to do it with significant latency if you set up remote desktop and an ad-hoc network) you would put more load on your DJing computer with whatever software you’re running to route it. Finally, I can’t imagine most laptops would deal well with using their display for something else - after all, how do you control the laptop if you can’t see what you’re doing?
Quite simply, I doubt it’s possible and even if it is, you’re probably better off using a monitor instead. I don’t mean to rain on your parade but that’s my take on it.
