How to gain CDJ control with Traktor Scratch?

How to gain CDJ control with Traktor Scratch?

Just got an Audio 6 with TSP 2 and everything seems to be working ok. I have sound and decks A and B are working. However, the CDJs (350s) are working as if they’re not connected to software. Can’t scroll down my playlist in traktor, looping is the normal looping I have without software, etc. Basically, I can only play/cue tracks in Traktor. Is this a mapping issue?

That’s completely normal and how timecode works. HID/MIDI is used to gain proper control of Traktor with CDJs rather than timecode which gives the limited control you have now.

As above. You dont need timecodes for the 350’s. Just set them up as midi controllers, and you will get the functionality you need. Bin / sell the Audio 6 and hook up with USB.

So yeah.. are you using timecode? Midi? HID? Have you read a manual?
Help us to help you

Using timecode. Read the manual. Set up everything step by step. So would I be better off using them as midi?

How is the CDJ supposed to tell the computer if you want to select another song if there is no connection?
Do you have both CDJ’s hooked up via USB to the computer? If yes, you can use them in MIDI mode to control Traktor.
But you can’t use MIDI mode and timecode mode at the same time (I think. I’ve never used the 350’s).

I know it’s a blunt thing to ask but do you understand what timecode is?

I basically thought I’d be able to use my cdj/mixer setup much like a controller.

You can, but you don’t need an Audio 6 for that. Just connect the CDJ-350s with USB cables to your laptop and you’re done.

Ok, so why would I need the audio 6 then? Is there some advantage to using it with TSP2?

There is no benefit to using Scratch or the Audio 6 with the CDJ 350s. You only need to connect the CDJs to Traktor and load up the mapping, and you’ll be able to use (almost) all of the CDJ buttons within Traktor.

The 350s can also serve as your soundcard for output so there’s no need for the Audio 6. You’ll need to aggregate them 1st though.

A couple of issues I’m having with timecode. How can I load tracks/loop in Traktor with the setup I have now (CDJ/DJM 350) without using the trackpad on my laptop? Also, how can I disable the autoplay function? When I load a song in Traktor, it starts playing automatically. Lastly, when I cue a song, it skips ahead a bit. It never returns back to the exact starting point I had it cued at originally. Sorry to be a pest; I’d just like to get all the issues out of the way at the same time.

This could be very helpfull

Great! I’ll give this a shot when I get home. Might be a stupid question, but does it matter that I’m using Traktor Scratch?

You should be able to use the regular loop buttons on the CDJs with timecode. Stop the timecode disc if you don’t want a song to autoplay. And the newest version of Traktor should regain the Track Browse function form the timecode CD.

The inaccurate cueing will be solved by using MIDI mode over USB with the CDJs instead of timecode.

After reading the Traktor Pro connection guide, I’m curious. It seems using my CDJs in midi mode gives more control to the Traktor user, and frankly seems better. Why don’t people just use this mode as opposed to timecode? Does it just work like this for the 350s?

You would use timecode on older CDJ’s, such as the CDJ1000. Decks that don’t have a built in soundcard basically.

Yes, the 350’s do work like this. That’s how I had mine set up.

$250 down the drain.

I’m sure the soundcard will be worth something anyway. Plus, you can just get a pair of 12’s now, and have an even better set-up.

Still worth keeping the A6 if you think you’ll be using other CDJs e.g. in clubs, or if you’re interested in trying vinyl.

But yeah, info is very obscure when it comes to things like this..

Thanks for all the responses. I appreciate the help!
