Looks like it was built like that to begin with. Great job sir
Is that a straight tone arm on a 1200? yuck.
cool dicer mod though would like to see more pics and internal pics
Seems like a weird spot for it, having to reach up with your left hand all the way to the top like that when playing.
But it looks good none the less
well thats pretty much the only spot it can go. And in battle style it would be fine.
BTW looks hot I want.
I’m sure they set them up battle style
Yup - I can’t think of anyone that would want/need/use Dicers without the TT’s battle style.
dope… what sucks though is if they come out with a revision to dicers, and this guys stuck with the old version unless he performs surgery again.
thats awesome!
Not really sure how you could revise the dicer. It’s just 3 banks of 5 buttons.
I’m just sayin if they come out with new dicers that have a knob on em or a fourth bank or whatever and the shape changes slightly then this guy is kinda screwed.
The dicer is based 100% on it’s position - ie - squeezed in the corner of a 1200/1210. Looks to me like the absolute MOST they could fit onto it in addition to the 5 pads and 3 banks switches, would be a 4th bank switch - right in the centre of the dicer…
But Novation aren’t stupid. I’m sure if a 4th bank could have been squeezed in, they would have done it. Maybe there’s not space on the PCB for a 4th switch. I dunno…
I agree with patch. I really do not see how they could revise the dicer.
Additionally you realise that even if they did bring out a new controller to fit there it doesn’t mean that his old ones will stop working.
Absolutely there is literally NO room on the PCB to add anything.
The idea behind the Dicer really can’t be improved upon without creating a new controller altogether.
What it all boils down to is this - 90% of the guys using Dicers are turntablists (or, like me wannabe turntablists…
slight_smile:, not controllerists.
They’ve/we’ve really got no need for any controllers other than buttons in the location that Dicers provide them. On the TT. What good is a knob/fader/touch strip on the TT???
You’ve gotta hand it to Novation - they’ve hit the nail DIRECTLY on the head with the Dicers, and FINALLY got Turntablists understanding what is possible with the software/control vinyl combo.
I really like this mod! Better than DJ Jazzy Jeffs decks. The slightly raised up dicer as opposed to just the buttons gives it a nice little flair.
My only concern is this - when you attach your Dicers like I do, using the attached DJ putty, you get an added element of “dampening”, meaning you can really smash those buttons without having the needle skip. It’s like having shocks fitted to the bottom of the Dicer.
This would be lost if you mounted them IN the TT. I’d also be a little worried (not much, though) about losing some of the height on the buttons. This is only the case if the aluminium case of the 1200’s/1210’s is any thicker than the plastic casings of the dicers…
You lose a little height (1mm) but the buttons don’t go any lower than flush with the deck plate when pushed; when mounted properly within the TT.
As far as smashing the buttons, aside from the fact that you shouldn’t be smashing them
, when I mounted them inside, I used rubber strips which serve to cushion the Dicer and maintain the position of the PCB.
Cool, but not nearly as slick as Jazzy Jeff’s custom set up. He has the pioneer 909 with a built in (I think) SL3, and similar dicer mods. Oh… and a custom paint job too.
I hope you guys jock mine as much as Jazzy’s when I’m done. ![]()
