Customizing the S4? Knobs, etc.
Can I remove the knobs and replace them with custom ones? If so where can I find them.

The guy you need is Daniel Malta he is THE ONLY PERSON ON THE WORLD who sels these, but we havn’t heard something form him for more than a year, so if you find out if he’s dead or lives i would be verry happy. He’s german BTW.
For more info about malta just ask me (phone, adres, ect.)
so this german guy who nobody has heard from in a year is the only guy IN THE WORLD who sells these?..highly doubt it
it’s true though
It is true.. I am yet to see knobs that will properly fit the S4. There are some out there that will fit the 6mm flatted shaft, but they will not align properly.
Hand paint/spray paint! Pop your knobs off then grab some paint of your choice and go to town! My friend did it with an x1 and his s4. If you still want the line just make sure to mask it off with a sliver of tape before you paint. ![]()
I haven’t gotten my s4 yet, but eventually I have a feeling I’ll go this route.
How do I pop them out? I don’t plan on breaking anything xD
put a piece of carton under the knob so you dont scratch your S4 and whip it up with an screwdriver
what paint should I use to paint them? spray paint? is acrylic ok? I want to paint them flourescent or glow in the dark
Check Yul’s S4 out: http://www.youtube.com/user/Yul303 - he hand painted his.
Check out Vangogo’s Skinz install for how to remove the knobs safely:
As for which paint…?
Yes what paint? and Vangogo’s Skinz install? You gave me the same link to that Youtube guy…
I used basic acrylic spray cans (paint for plastic of course), with a primer first. I cleaned the faders and knobs first by adding to water a bit of washing liquid (soap, whatever the correct word is).
Pics?
Hahaha, I’m now known as that YouTube guy lol.
Smitten gave you the skinz install link because it shows how to remove the knobs. Just be very careful, and don’t pry too much.
you have a link to my youtube channel in the previous page within smitten’s post. Check one of the latest video.
By the way, here’s something I didn’t’ try yet but I may soon:
Basically it’s a glow in the dark varnish ^^
I won’t be doing this. I don’t want flourescent or black light paint. I really want something along the glow in the dark line not just under a black light. I just ordered a custom skin from 12inchskinz and I won’t be painting the knobs unless I can find red glow in the dark paint.
The problem with glow in the dark is that the knobs have to receve light too, the store it while in daylight and send it out when it’s dark.
I want custom ones to but i wanna keep the originals in case so thats the problem for me.
A note on “glow in the dark” and “blacklight” paints:
I’ve used both, and the reality is that as cool as glow in the dark sounds (don’t need lights, don’t need worry about bulbs and etc) it wears out faster IMO than backlight reactive paint. Glow in the dark paint will also glow under Blacklight. The thing about UV Reactive is that you tend to get better color reproduction in the black light versus a glow in the dark paint. Also, from my last trip to the craft store to get some paint, I think UV reactive comes in more colors, and is less expensive!
If you are in the USA, it’s almost Halloween, wait until post-halloween specials and you can tend to find both glow in the dark and UV reactive paints for less!
yeah I understand but at the same time I always use an additional coat of varnish so I’m not that concerned about ‘wearing out’ the paint.
yep, point noted.
