Ok so there is loads of confusion around this thing called ‘EDM’ which is short for ‘electronic dance music’ I do believe. The confusion comes from what music is classed as ‘EDM’. Some say it is any genre of dance music but to me, I don’t think it is. When I think of EDM I think of things like electro house, commercial dance music, obscene dubstep. Artists like Knife party or skrillex fit the bill quite well!
However I don’t believe that things like deep house or techno for example comes under the phrase EDM. yes it is dance music however it’s a more underground scene. It’s a completely different circle of people than what I would class as EDM fans. Does anyone else agree?
I’ve been told that my latest mix is classed as EDM but I wouldn’t class it as that at all
I take it to mean the person using it has no idea what they’re talking about. Or possibly they know what they’re talking about, but neither I nor anyone else have a clue what they’re talking about, because they’ve used the term EDM. Either way, it’s bad
I actually don’t get what’s so wrong with the term EDM - just because electronic music is getting popular doesn’t make the term stupid. It’s so much better than calling everything “techno” anyway.
EDM is what we in England have called dance music for the last twenty to thirty years, but those from abroad have had to rebrand it to make sense of it and make it popular.
Don’t mean to offend anyone by this, but that is what it is to me.
‘Made in poor taste’…are you just using big terms that you don’t understand man? Hit me up on PM and I’ll happily take you through some english lessons.
As for the original question, EDM is just the current genre of music that is popular with kids - everything goes in cycles, it’s a form of music that is selling well, packing events and keeping the clubbing industry busy.
Anyone who doesn’t understand how the music industry works has a lot to learn.
