diy controller

diy controller

So I’ve seen loads of people have made these so I want in on the action.
How do I do it lol. If I use a pc controller can I set up say 16 buttons and a pot like midi fighter.
Or could I even use one of these?

Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=370719132553

It support 22 buttons so it would be ideal for MF clone but since it send HID signal you should use loopMIDI or some other virtual MIDI cable and HID-MIDI convertor to send MIDI to Software.

Have a look at my gamepad DIY controller:

very nice. im not majorly sure on what i want from it. I just thought if i copied the design of the mf i could use the mad sample packs.
Although i would like 2 encoder pots. 1 for scrolling effects and one for wet dry. Then maybe a beatmasher build up, so 4 buttons. sync, play/pause, hotcues, and hotcue delete. anything else? lol
Wpuld that pcb in the link work for encoders, analogue inputs?

It support 2 analog joysticks or four knobs. Not so sure about encoders…

hmmm. how easy would be to just make a simple 16 button unit like the midi fighter just to trigger one shot samples? then i could map effects to trigger on the samples if i wish.

Why not 20? That way you can have 16 buttons for transport and effects and four more for bank selection. It’s easier than hacking gamepad and solider wires directly to board like I did

To be honest im really new to this modding game. I’d soon be able to figure it out if explained to me, but initially im lost.
how did you build yours, what pcb? any conversion software needed? you have a build link? Cheers for the help so far stewe!

My board was USB gamepad like mentioned. My friend made box for me and all I did was to solider everything together and made top plate out of peace of laminate. It’s still under construction tho, need to add fourth row of arcades and LED feedback. I’m using Rejoice HID-MIDI converter which is pretty easy to configure but it’s only windows I think.

Here’s peace of it in action :

It was originally designed for Instant Gratification effects.

Neat!! What is instant gratification? What program would I need on mac osx?

Search for midifighter Instant Gratification on youtube.

Here is one: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/31083/midihid

So it’s the ability to use several fx at once to activate new effects?
So here’s what I want to build. 20 button. 16 on top for effects and 4 extra buttons on the sides one of which can switch me between fx mode and remix deck mode so I can just play samples. Is this possible and what will I need.
And just out of curiosity what would it take to make instant gratification? Or is that all in the map??

That’s MF firmware trickery but you can use modifiers to produce the same.

It is possible and again with modifiers. However you can map only first sample row in remix deck.

Check this thread where you can find all parameters for IG: The Ultimate FX Thread

I have looked in the mapping and its seems possible to assign a button to play each slot in the remix decks? am i missing something?
So will that cb board do what i want? or even a pc controller modified?

Each 64, did you use hack?

Sorry my bad. its each slot 1,2,3,4 but each slot has 4 banks so 16. sorry.
There is a mf map that allows you to play 16 samples from the remix decl. so could we not use that? or is that what you mean by hack?

@Stewe, where can I find a list of boards that don’t need the 3rd party software, just straight USB. Not trying to hijack the thread, just interested in this stuff as Well. I have some ideas in my head, lol!! Oh also which ones can use endless encoders??

Thanks for the time and info

No probs mate, breaks up all my stupid questions haha.
But you can share your ideas with us…

Cool! Nothing special really, I was thinking of something along the lines of the Pioneer DJM-T1 but having separate buttons for the remix decks and cue points. I’d like to add o e of the spare MAYA44’s I have lying around, lol!

These from Livid are awesome http://shop.lividinstruments.com/builder/builder-brainv2-bussboard.html
