I have something similar to that on an older mobile DJ facade. Over the years, I have installed this (or something similar) in 3 of the club booths where I commonly work (with permission of the club owner).
Id say it’s tough because it’s 10 feet of cord. I imagine you could keep it rolled up during a gig so that it remains compact, but then do you have a beacon next to your gear? Thats a question for soundinmotiondj, I guess.
I’d most likely go with red if this ends up being the final answer. Red would be bright enough to see in a dark environment without being overwhelmingly bright.
The problem that I ran into was that with some versions the plastic tube is quite stiff and difficult to unroll and lay flat. There are clips that can be screwed to a support and the rope “clipped” into it on a more permanent installation. If you don’t mind it coiling around, it can easily be used just that easily.
The overall length is not that bad. There are some versions of rope light that can be cut to length. Alternatively, you could always leave part of the length coiled up in the carry bag.
We use a usb gooseneck light. cheap and cheerful, several different steles on ebay.
Also we have a red Ikea Lampan, crazy cheap, that we put on the edge of the booth. it lights the booth fine and has become a little bit of a trademark…when the red light is on, the floor is secure
