DJ interface alternatives

DJ interface alternatives

Hi,

I’m particularly new here and i’m glad i’m a member of this site now.
i’ve learned so much.

i have a noob question. is there any alternative dj interface other than m-audio torq, serato scratch and NI audio dj? would a regular audio interface like m-audio fastrack pro do?

i would really appreacite you spending a little time answering this silly question

A regular interface is fine, just realise that you need the companies personal interface if you wish to use timecode vinyl or timecode cd’s.

Thank you so much Bentosan. i have 2 stanton turntables and rane mixer already, does this mean i’m just going to need the timecoded vinyls and the software?

Thats means you need an Audio8 an Audio 4 or a traktor certified mixer to use Traktor pro with your turntables.

I see. thanks. i’ll start saving up

afaik audio4 doesnt work with timecode… its just the audio 8 or a certified mixer…

Are you sure about that? i was doing some reading around and everything i have read says it can - it just requires an upgrade to Traktor Scratch Pro for Vinyl timecode support.

isn’t there shortage of ins and outs in case of AUDIO 4? or on the other hand, AUDIO 8 has 4 totaly expendable outs that are not required for DVS setup?

so that means, if i want to have DVS system and i got already classic Fast Track PRO i need just to buy this: http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=tscratchupgrade ???

assuming that i got it right, plz correct or aprove following:
Internal mixing will be done with traktor and Fast track pro ins will be used to connect turntables
External mixing needs 4 channel mixer? or 2 channel will do just fine?

Note:

Two Stereo RCA ins for turntables - i.e for Digital Vinyl Control

Two Stereo Outs to mixer, for external mixing if needed.

Headphone jack is assume is an independent stereo-channel for monitoring

if not. you can monitor on an external mixer.

OR

Mix internally, and connect stereo output 1/2 to sound sound system

and connect stereo output 3/4 to headphones (via adaptor) to monitor.

P.S This is all just my musings

Splendid. So Auido8 has two more channels to be used. I will go most likely with the whole Scratch PRO package even though i could try it through my Fast Track. First of, i dont trust Fast Track PRO that it will handle it properly (not with low latency) and i wanted better and more rock solid audio interface anyway.

But can someone inspire me what can i do with those 2 extra stereo channels (assuming i will mix externaly)? Is there some AUDIO 8 user that can share experience?

if i remember it right, the skratchworx website had the NI press note which said that tmecode vinyl is not supported by the audio4 dj. however the ni website says it is supported. its a bit weird… if it is supported traktor timecode would now be one of the cheapest dvs solutions on the market…

"Native Instruments Introduces AUDIO 4 DJ
New DJ audio interface based on the acclaimed AUDIO 8 DJ combines versatile connectivity with compact footprint and affordable price
Berlin, January 15th, 2009 – Native Instruments today introduced AUDIO 4 DJ, a performance-optimized USB 2.0 audio interface specifically designed for TRAKTOR and other DJ software. With its versatile feature set, outstanding audio quality, extremely low latency, and its compact and robust aluminium casing, AUDIO 4 DJ is the ideal centerpiece for a wide range of club and studio setups.
Based on the acclaimed AUDIO 8 DJ interface that is also at the heart of Native Instruments’ TRAKTOR SCRATCH DJ system, the new AUDIO 4 DJ offers a 4-in/4-out configuration with the same pristine audio quality, but with an even smaller footprint and at a more affordable price. Two stereo inputs with software-switchable phono preamps allow DJs to connect turntables, CD decks and music production gear for various live performance and recording purposes. Two stereo outputs provide the necessary connectivity for routing two decks into an external DJ mixer, or outputting a separate master and cue signal when mixing in software. All audio connections are in RCA format for straightforward interfacing with DJ equipment.
AUDIO 4 DJ is equipped with studio-quality 24bit/192 kHz audio converters from Cirrus Logic that provide crystal-clear treble and rich bass response, and features special high-gain output stages that deliver a powerful +10dBu signal with additional headroom. Low-latency operation down to less than 4ms enables the high degree of precision and responsiveness that professional DJ performances rely on. AUDIO 4 DJ also features a ground point for turntables and an adjustable headphone output, as well as signal level LEDs for all inputs and outputs. The interface is completely bus-powered, making a cumbersome AC adapter unnecessary.
AUDIO 4 DJ comes as a full-featured DJ system due to the inclusion of TRAKTOR LE, a compact version of Native Instruments’ TRAKTOR software that offers two decks with high-quality time-stretching, an integrated mixer, performance effects, loop and cueing functions, and a powerful track database. All owners of AUDIO 4 DJ can also take advantage of a discounted upgrade to the full-featured TRAKTOR PRO software at any time.
Pricing and availability
AUDIO 4 DJ is available now for a suggested retail price of $249 / 229 € at authorized dealers and in the NI Online Shop."

Pretty ambiguous

YOU ARE WRONG

CONCLUSIVE PROOF OK!

Please note: Combining the TRAKTOR PRO software with AUDIO 4 DJ DOES NOT give you timecode control to spin via turntables or CD decks. If you wish to use timecoded vinyl or CDs you should buy TRAKTOR SCRATCH PRO.
