DJM 800 or 900?

go to the guitar center and ask them if you can try out one of their mixers with your rig / cuz you are interested in buying. staff could be actually experienced with helping you plug in… rinse and repeat for every store in your area… now you should have plenty of experiences and with a lot of mixers potentionaly.

also, isn’t there djtt article covering plugging in the club mixer?

hell there was a video posted sometime of some DJ that made a special cable to just use the RCAs from the CDJs and into the audio interface and back into the CDJ so he could use both.

on djtt? i shall go a huntin, thanks!

bingo!

the DJs that I’ve seen use both (Porter and Zedd), plug into the DJM and mostly use the s4. I noticed that times they layer effect on top of each with with the S4 and DJM, like an echo or delay then filter. Other thing I noticed is zedd doesn’t use headphones at all, so he syncs the entire time. Just putting out what I saw.

 really??

yup. I saw him saturday in chicago. Watched him use the s4, no headphones. I didn’t even realize it till about half way through.

Sure he wasn’t using IEMs or something?

Sure with traktor and most his music being 128 - 130, its not too hard to wave ride, ive found myself doing this a lot lately, I think it helps you get to know your songs better because you look for whats going to happen, instead of pre cueing it

Unless your beatgrids are completely fucked, you dont need headphones to “beatmatch” with traktor anyways…

Plus the fact that he knows his tracks, cuepoints and has prepared his tracks & playlist.. you don’t really need a headphone. Headphones are overrated these days. Especially the HDJ2000. But I have those. And I love those.
I have no idea what I’m talking about. I’m just rambling.

Well of course you don’t need headphones if everything is perfectly organized. I’m sure he has all it perfectly set up, and he plays the sames sets over and over. Just saying its a new age.

Oh yeah he def was not using any IEMs or anything. I was right up front.

the youtube vid of hooking up that stuff was taken down, arrg

I’d only go without headphones for ableton where my playlist is fixed and my audio is all transposed nicely.

With traktor I’d use it to check how the tracks sound together before I go for it and to make slight pitch adjustments for harmonic reasons.

New age indeed. DJs like this should bring a nice comfy chair too. No need to stand around like that for 1-2 hours after pressing play on their set.

Where is the inspiration in the moment?

exactly what I was thinking. But I’m not the popular one being booked all over the world. These days it much much less about djing skill and all about production sadly. Not to say he didn’t kill it, he certainly did. But its not like the old days, where if you could mix a perfect set with great track selection you were a god.

Something thats been stuck in my head all day and something the midi-fighters know all about “welcome to the ‘instant gratification’ generation”.

That’d be the only reason to get a DJM mixer - to replace the S4 for a mixer + X1s. Still, if you’ll be dropping cash for a 900 and use with Traktor, it’ll be more fun & pleasure to get a DB4.

anybody can DJ nowadays. production helps weed out the saturated population…for better or for worse
