as the title says my brand new overlay is beginning to warp. I had a feeling like this one would be trouble because the backing near the inside area of the jogs was beginning to peel upon arrival. I followed instructions as per the djtt tutorial vid. at first it looked great (although I do miss the flat black look of the previous overlay), but now it has the appearance of air bubbles forming near the line faders and above the gain knobs. also it seems as if very small amounts of adhesive are is secreting from the bottom near the cross fader. is anyone else having issues or did I receive a defective overlay?
will post pics later
Edit: also to clarify the warping isn’t caused by actual air bubbles…just best way to describe the appearance of the warping
Hi bro, I have same problems, Question for DJ Techtools??? I don’t know guys what the happend??? (I was buy old overlay V2 and BEST Quality, no problem, but now V3 overlay very low quality) If you need foto? I am macking!!!
I apologize as im not really following your question. however if I can clarify, the problems I experienced seems to be from a defective overlay. defects happen in any sort of production/shipping/receiving process.
I sent them a quick email and they sent a new one right away. the current non defective overlay i received is of the exact great quality as the previous versions of the overlay. (I did prefer the matte finish of the old ones but thats just preference.) These things are very well made. If you dont believe me then just spend some time trying to remove one. its beastly.
I have the exact same issue with my vci 100 se.. and I’ve only had it for about 3 or 4 months.. it did come with the new overlay but its lifting and warping all over and the glue adhesive is seeping out on all the edges and around the knobs… I sent DJTT an email… lets see how it goes…
*Batch 1 of overlays (flat black, looked great- worked perfectly) (sold until january of this year)
*Batch 2 of overlays (glossy black, looked ok- worked ok) (sold after january 2010)
*Batch 3 of Overlays ( Glossy Black, looked ok- started lifting after a while) (sold in the past 4 months)
After the problems with 2 and 3 we went to a brand new manufacturer and paid double to get some really nice overlays made and now we have :
*Batch 4 (Flat black, Super Sweet, Work Perfectly, available in the store now)
Everyone that received an overlay in batch 2 will be getting an email shortly with the opportunity to replace their overlay with batch 4 for only $10.
If you have a defective overlay from batch 3 that is lifting or failing, email orders@djtechtools.com and we will sort you out with a new overlay on the house. Please be honest, we can only afford to replace the defective ones and not give everyone a brand new overlay.
ok.. so I have some follow up questions… when we go to remove the defective overlay, do we just start pulling it or should we remove the lid off the vci to then pull overlay, remove old adhesive and then attach new overlay? thanks!
What’s your other overlay underneath the faulty one?
I actually just did this last night - had the new faulty one on top of the old overlay (the flat black one).. removed them both at the same time, and to my surprise the old overlay came off without leaving ANY residue. I’m talking absolutely no clean-up was necessary, it’s as if it was never on there in the first place.
So, if you’re in the same situation, I’d strongly recommend removing them both
I’d highly suggest removing the casing first, as it’ll make it a lot easier to remove the overlay, and especially clean it up. It’s not difficult at all, just make sure you place the VCI on a pillow, towel, or anything soft. See this video for instructions on how to remove it:
Received the new overlay the other day, and the letter that came with it said just to stick on top of the existing overlay.. Only thing is the existing overlay constantly lifts around the left pitch fader and left side of the unit…
Is there an effective way of removing an existing overlay, or is it just lift and pull?
I got mine a few days ago and applied it over the old one (which was from batch 1), and all is dandy. I actually had bought one from the second (or third) batch, but I never applied it – I didn’t like the gloss and I had a skeptical feeling about applying it before I learned the new mapping anyway; after I read about problems people were having with that one it stayed off. So I got the new one and applied that instead; anyone wanna buy a Batch 2 or 3 overlay as a collector’s item?
