Documentary - "Soundtrack: The Story of the DJ"

Documentary - “Soundtrack: The Story of the DJ”

Hello.

I’m working on a documentary about DJing and I thought this would be a good place to spread the word.

“Soundtrack: The Story of the DJ” is the first documentary to tell the complete story of the DJ. Follow the evolution of DJing from radio stations and rec rooms to festival stages, night clubs and recording studios around the world. Unlike previous documentaries that focus on a niche aspect of DJing or music, “Soundtrack” will document the history of DJing as it evolved into various forms and styles.

Filming is already underway and you can check out the progress and interviews thus far at www.TheDJDocumentary.com

I’d love to hear what you guys think. I appreciate any spreading of the word in advance.

Keep up the good fight!

-DJ Zimmie

make sure you talk about sasha and john digweed… you don’t wanna offend the eldars lol

I think it would be cool if you included something about bedroom DJ’s.

Yes

Nice!!!

Make sure you get the rights to any music that’s playing in the cut. I speak from experience here.

Yes. Definitely. The list of potential interviewees keeps growing and there are definitely a lot of the original seminal DJs on there. That’s the whole point.

Any good ideas on how you’d like to see this portrayed?

Id go visit a few bedroom djs say a teen, someone middle aged and someone older and interview them. Find out why they are a bedroom dj do they have a fulltime job or not do they hope to become a club dj at some point why they invested all the money in the gear that they ow who are the idols that they look up to. I could go on and on but I think you got what Id do. Ive got a perfect person for you she goes by the name of pushmorebuttons on youtube I think if you got in contact with her she may be interested, Shes been on here so Ive heard.

Will be a long documentary

I dunno about you guys, but I’d be pretty bored looking at bedroom dj’s in a documentary. They are not part of the dj culture as they don’t play for crowds. Dj-ing is all about making people dance.
I know I’ll get flamed for this, but this is my opinion.

Agreed

Not to flame you personally but Im not sure how you can say bedroom DJ’s are not part of the DJ culture. Bedroom DJ’s buy the same DJ equipment that performing DJ’s buy. Bedooom DJ’s use the same software as perfoming DJ’s use and buy vinyl/mp3’s like performing DJ’s are part of record pools like perfoming DJ’s. Hey if you want to look at 50mins of any one DJ perfoming be my guest Im saying do a 8 minute mini documentry on 3 DJ Bedroom DJ’s and the rest on well known DJ’s.

I’m not deciding what should or shouldn’t be in the documentary. I’m just voicing my opinion here.
If you see them as dj culture we have a different definition of the term. Which is inevitable at some point.
The main difference between bedroom and, let’s say non-bedroom dj’s is that the latter bases his choice of music on the crowd. That could mean completely throwing away everything you planned. Not only that, it’s where dj-ing started in the first place.

But back to your bedroom category. You suggested three people of different ages with a why and how they dj. What, and I don’t mean this disrespectful, is the point of their story. What are you trying to say to the audience?

My suggestion is just that a suggestion to represent a small cross catagory that would cover some of the population of bedroom DJ’s. The point of them bieng there is to show that there are other dj’s out there that dont perform in front of crowds.

Unless the OP is going to do a 10 hour mini-series it’s not feasible to really cover all kinds of DJs. Personally I think a little time should be given to wedding DJs being as they are the top earners.
