Movies/Documentaries about DJ’ing/Electronic Music

Hi everybody. I was wondering if any of you have any good suggestions for movies or documentaries about electronic music genres, or DJ’ing in general? It could be a fictional movie about a DJ or something, or a sort of video guide, or anything really  I find it hard to find useful/exciting movies myself

So far i got:

  • Dubfiles (Documentary about dubstep)

  • One Perfect Day (An australian movie about a composer)

  • Put The Needle On The Record (A documentary about electronic music and the rise of the DJ’ing in pop culture)

  • Scratch (A documentary about Hip Hop and scratching)

massive thread on this somewhere on the forums. google djtechtools documentaries, Im sure you’ll find it

Tiesto - Another Day at the Office
The Freshest Kids…focuses mostly on the birth of break dancing, but talks some about the beginning of hip hop.

It’s all gone Pete Tong

Tiesto has his mini documentaries on you tube and at the moment there is a ‘Stafford Brothers’ thing going on (in Sydney at least on TV) Pretty sweet

There’s been about 5 threads on this topic. Search is yo friend.

I have already searched the forum, and read some threads about movies and such, but there are many dead links, and stuff that mainly focuses on vinyl, so I just wanted to see if there was any new movies or series or something

Are those Tiesto documentaries you’re talking about the same? If else, could you give me a link to those mini docs sparkbro?

I going to watch that tonight! I finally found a movie store today that had it

I watched the David Guetta documentary last night “Nothing But the Beat”. Was not impressed at all :-/

It’s All Gone Pete Tong is amazing btw!

Also coming up is the Ultra Music Festival movie “Can You Feel It” that will be playing for one night only across the US in theaters on March 22nd:

Berlin Calling
it’s about a drug addled DJ, but stars actual producer/DJ Paul Kalkbrenner in that role, so it’s very accurate musically.

It’s Guetta.. What did you expect? haha

Unfortunatly I’m placed in Europe :disappointed:

Nice! Haven’t heard about that one!

Hi-Tech Soul. Gives a good rundown of the early Detroit techno scene. Cool interviews with Juan Atkins, Stacey Pullen, Kevin Saunderson, etc.

RE:GENERATION is the Grammy documentary featuring Skrillex, Pretty Lights, Mark Ronson, DJ Premier, and Crystal Method. Just saw it last week and it was really great. Was just in theaters though for two nights so not sure when you’ll be able to catch it next.

ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL EXPERIENCE is a pretty sweet documentary. Available for purchase on iTunes. Very much about the event. Kind of fluff, but beautiful and great music. Will.I.Am is the worst. DEADMAU5 has a concert film on iTunes as well.

There are some others I have at home, but forget… will update later.

I’ve been working on a screenplay that’s been described like a techno version of TAKEN set at a music festival if anyone’s interested in checking it out or discussing. I’m trying to write the villain as a gangster/thug life drug dealer promoter DJ if anyone has any thoughts on that.

Can’t Believe nobody has said Take One (documentary about Swedish House Mafia) there pretty funny, you can usually find it on youtube with subtitles.
Its all Gone Pete Tong is a classic and i cant remember but Nicky Romero posted on his fb that theres a new documentary about house music in like Chicago and Detroit.

Paul Kalkbrenner’s Berlin Calling and Paul Kalkbrenner 2010 - A Live Documentary

Yeah I’m really looking forward to RE:GENERATION!! I just hope it’ll get out on DVD, because I don’t think they are going to show it in the theaters in Europe :disappointed:

Great suggestions! Keep 'em coming!:smiley:

I may be blind… but I don’t think anyone mentioned Groove (from 2000).

Come on! It’s got Digweed at a San Fransisco warehouse party playing “Heaven Scent”. Epic!

the djtt movies thread

It’s been forever since I saw this movie…I should grab it and watch it again.

Favela On Blast

Part Of The Weekend Never Dies (Soulwax)

Justice - A Cross The Universe

Good Copy Bad Copy (Documentary about copyright issues)

The Boys and Girls Guide To Getting Down (more about LA party culture, but still a good flick)
