Ok, so I hear you guys are the BEST of the BEST on here..
I’ve recently gotten into production, specifically with Dutch House. I’ve learned that alot of the underlying beats of the syncopated Dutch House sound are made using subs. I have learned (more or less) how to make the typical subs in songs like this:
0:08
However, can someone point me in the direction as to how to make the ones in songs like this:
0:16
Is it subs that I’m hearing or are those toms? Sorry Im such a newb and thanks so much in advanced!!!
There’s a lot of percs out there that can create that sound, it just sounds like a tuned drum rack with a simple conga/bongo sample.
And for the record, these are two of the worst songs I’ve heard in a long time. It really boggles my mind why some one would even want to try and produce tracks like this and it’s even more boggling that some one would even try sign and release these records
dutch house overall is one of those hate it or love it genres. i totally dig how people can find this annoying. it’s huge in some places, though. both releases overdo the high-synth-thing and use very cheese samples/vocals. but hey, theres a market for that.
what i really like about dutch house is the percussions they use. both tracks have awesome drums/percs underneath. if you head to genres like tropical bass / bashment / etc. you’ll find those lovely rolling snares/percs combined with some less “dutch” sounds. some breaks releases featured them recently too. well i come from dancehall, so gotta love the snares.
give you a good example:
since you hate the above ones you not gonna love this one either, lol.
oh to the question: second example sounds more like percussion than a bass synth to me, too.
its hard to tell. i’d say tom but it really doesnt make any difference since you’ve gotta find your perfect sample anyways and it doesnt matter what it was named.
just put the sample into your running drumloop and then cycle through your library to find the perfect one.
Like I said, it’s most likely a tuned perc sample. Just load a perc sample that has a nice long ring to it into the Sampler and then start playing it like an instrument until you find a little 2 bar loop you like and be done with it
