has anyone else had to pay duties when ordering a vci-100 from djtt
What country do you live in?
I had to pay as well. something like 100€.
I had to pay extra. Shipping is one thing, duties are another. Those are set by customs and can’t be controlled.
haha fuck.
im in Toronto, Canada
ahah, gotta love canadian customs, they don’t miss any…
should try to have them write “GIFT” on it
… next time :S
It says in the webstore that we will work with you guys to help with this sort of thing - you just need to contact us and tell us what you want us to write on the parcel.
For Europe, normally you don’t have to pay, because it is an USB device.
There was a post about this. Can’t remember it was on NI or on DJTT website.
I had to pay also, and I made a complaint, because it’s not an audio device.
and they gave me a partly refund.
found it!

Just look up the TARIC (International Customs Database).

The VCI is not an audio device, as it does not have any audio circuitry. It is just a USB (and ONLY USB, so it can only be used with a personal computer - important when dealing with customs officers) connected computer input device, and as such, it falls under the TARIC Code 847160 (Computer Input/Output devices). These devices enjoy a ZERO % tariff in the EU.
You only have to pay your local value added tax. Thats why importing a VCI from the US or Japan is cheaper than buying it at your local (European) store ![]()
maybe you can use this to get a refund![]()
Hey Anthony thanks for posting up that information again ![]()
We should get this information up in the webstore.
youre welcome!
maybe you should write on the packages “Computer usb device or something”
or get some info at the tax office?![]()
Yup ill talk this over with Ean and the Phil who is in charge of the webstore and we will see what we can come up with ![]()
double post!
What ? where ? pretends to be innocent ![]()
you have the power![]()
Hey Guys,
Just about everyone that orders a VCI-100 should not have to pay much in taxes if anything at all. We are specifying on every order that they are USB input devices as mentioned above in the thread. This should mean that most countries dont have to pay extra taxes.
There are some countries where this may not be the case (canada) in which case you need to specifically request what you want on the box (like return or warranty) but then you , the customer, takes responsibility for anything that might happen as a result of that.
if the Canadian mounties snatch your VCI, become famous djs and tour the world, well then you cant be angry at us ![]()
Yeah no worries, my mistake. I’ll pay the fucking mounties. But I won’t smile for them.
hey Evan really sorry about that, I hope you found Ean’s email helpful. I’m not a fan of Canadian customs at all ![]()
its all good man, it just got delivered right now! super pumped about it… looks fucking sick!!
only shitty part is NI server is fucking up so i can’t do anything but sit and look at it lol
