Ecler Evo 5 Vs. Allen&Heath DB4. What should i buy?

Hi ! I have a big problem. I gonna buy a new mixer but dont really know what to choose. Its stands between Ecler Evo 5 and Allen&Heat Xone DB4. I had my mind set on Ecler Evo 5. But then i get to hear rumours like they dont update the firmware and tha latest is that they are dumping the dj division.

The issues i have with Allen&Heat is the pricetag (not a big issue… just need to save money couple of weeks longer) and that it is USB and not firewire like the Ecler. I gonna use the mixer with a Macbook Pro and would be nice to have all USB port open for other things.

Please tell me all the pros and cons between theese two mixers.
I appreciate all help and ideas i can get.

I would go for the DB4 because of the sound quality and the fx matrix,
about the pro and cons, you answered your own question really.

The next thing on my shopping list is a DB4,
The Evo 5 has never crossed my mind

The DB4 is loooooovely - I got a chance to play with a review unit - the Midi mapping sits so comfortably with the rest of the mixer and the effects and loops are brilliant.

I also would suggest the A&H DB4.

Big thanks for all suggestion…u guys made up my mind

I love how this thread start with “I have a big problem” and then continues talking about mixer A of € 2.000 and mixer B of € 2.000.

First world problems I tell you…

LoL

Yeah I wouldnt class it as a problem…
more like a good thing if your in that kinda position

Hehe…well u know what i mean anyway…of course not a big problem. But dont wont to pay shit load of cash for something i wouldnt be happy with
So now i orderd the DB4…and thanks again for all inputs

LoL

yeah you’re a very lucky guy, I’m so jealous.

I’m jealous too but I loooove the Ecler Evo 5 and it plays so nicely with Traktor.

I’m stupid though; I first bought the Denon DNX1700 and played with it a few days then I saw a great deal on the Evo 5 so I jumped on it. So now I’m trying to sell the Denon and I know I eventually will, but for the money I put down I could have had the DB4 I wanted all along. Ahhh well… the Evo 5 is something else though; and if you like to scratch at all the stock faders are absolutely lovely. The effects layout is pretty cool too – it’s really fun having a crossfader for wet/dry. But the looper on the DB4 (not to mention the easy access to filters and the incredible array of effect options) puts the Evo5 to shame. If I could do it all again I would have just bought the DB4 in the first place.

Looking at the back panel of the mixer, I think you’d better thank A&H for all the inputs.

Seriously though, the DB4 is so feature packed it’s not even funny. I can only think of two downsides comparing it to the evo 5 :
*too busy, too many features - could be overwhelming to some?
*not traktor scratch certified (… yet?)

TSP certification is the one thing that makes me happy I have an Evo5 in spite of it all – I’m afraid there is little indication that the DB4 will ever be certified, and I really like being able to use DVS without putting an extra soundcard in the chain (and the Evo 5 sound quality is phenomenal).

The “too busy” argument comes up a lot but I think it only comes up among people who have never actually played with the DB4. It’s actually the most intelligently laid out feature set I’ve seen. I only played with it for an hour or so but I felt like I could figure out everything I wanted to pretty easily. There is a LOT going on for sure, but they’ve managed to lay it out in such a way that it can be used like a normal mixer without any trouble and once you get into playing around with the features they are very well organized and make a lot of sense.

Amen. I always see people on forums making complaints about the layout from looking at pictures (cramped fx section, buttons around the crossfader, etc), but all the things mentioned never even cross my mind while using it.

Definitely a pain… hate having a soundcard plugged into a soundcard for dvs. Not sure how it ended up like this in light of the 4D having Traktor cert, but oh well.

Didn’t take you too long to decide lol. Welcome to the club.
