Expand my horizons: good funk and house music
Hey guys would anyone here mind pointing me to some good funk and house music
no but seriously, just follow the trail.
find an artist you like and look at the labels they are on then look at those artists
rinse and repeat.
good call fox, i learned about tunes through getting compilations, then looking for the tunes that i liked off those discs, then looking on the labels for similar artists.
that works too but i find compilations to be generally shit/mainstream. but i guess if u find ones u like then all the moar power to ya. the only real comps. we get are MoS… fael
the internet is a powerful tool, and google is your friend.
Find good funk/house DJ’s you like, find tracklistings for their live sets and then dig from there.
yeah that was before i had net access, now those discs are gathering dust!

Oh and Neighbour’s label Home Breakin’ Records is a wicked source of the funk.

Ninja Tunes
Quantic
Tru Thoughts Records

Anything by Miguel Migs and the Naked Music cohorts, awesome house music. (seen him dj hes the tits).
This list could go on for weeks.
A lot of those are more downtempo/breakbeat labels aren’t they K?
ie - Ninja Tunes, Quantic, Jazzanova, Tru Thoughts.
Yeah partly but theres some awesome uptempo Funk coming from them.
I saw a few posts regarding House so i though id stick some funk in there for the guy.
“We need some funk in here”![]()
This song makes me happy in a second !
Safe as, K.
Joshua Heath is definitely worth a listen. Multi-instrumentalist with a masters in jazz studies. Check out his releases on Miguel Mig’s Salted imprint, My Headphones is a stone cold classic floorfiller.
Yeah man we are on the same page.
I love a lot of the stuff on OM Records and Miguel Migs and his Naked and Salted releases, he is a total hero. I saw Migs DJ once once it was a sublime nite of awesome house music.
Defo mate.
Perfect house/funk/Philly soul crossover:
Joshua Heath - Casa Fiesta (DAE)
If our night had one anthem it would be that.
Quantic is full bore rare Latin Funk these days, Tru-thoughts is fairly eclectic, as is Ninja tunes … so I wouldn’t call it downtempo/breakbeat exclusively
Not exclusively, but certainly more known for that sort of thing than house/funk.
Tried finding some house on Youtube last night, there’s not really much of a selection for it.
I think Nervous Records has a lot of good house/ electro house artists
Also, I heard a song by Treasure Fingers and started searching for his/her stuff and found a lot of funky/ nu disco stuff
Check out Boy 8-bit and Mastiksoul ![]()
