External Phono Preamp into DJM-900 NXS channel B & C
I searched but didn’t see anything so my apologies if this has been posted.
I’m in the market for a 4 channel mixer. I was looking at the Rane 64 (have a 62 running an Audio 6 card so I like the layout) but with the use of Traktor more frequently and my preference for X1 over mapping the 62/4 to Traktor, I thought the DJM900 Nexus might be a better buy for my budget.
However, I would like the option of four phono inputs as I’d like platter control for decks A B and either C or D. Has anyone used an external phono preamp to boost these inputs to line level? Does it create too much distortion for proper timecode tracking or are no phono preamps good enough?
Should I just bite the bullet and run the 64 and pick up an Audio 10 over this potential setup? Either way, I will be getting a second X1 so that’s a nix.
I’d like to be able to go between A and B quickly on the left hand and thus, I think I’d need two timecode + 1 more for D (or C same, difference). I would have to map a button to go between A and B quickly and this complicates things over having 3 (or 4) timecode inputs running and simply using the appropriate platter (A or B since I scratch left, cut right). Either way, I need 3 time code signals.
The other thing I considered was moving deck D over to the left hand side and then running B and C with internal control using an X1. I’m not sure this works as well as I would have my acapella and instrumental for track coming in on channels A and D rather than A and B which is a bit a of a mind warp. I think having a timecode on Channel B of the DJM is the optimal solution for what I’m trying to do.
I would really like to try to figure out whether or not an external pre-amp on the phono line would be a possibility.
Thanks,
Sorry to bump an old thread but, would you be abe to map this to the existing standard keyboard mapping ? as i use 3 decks all the time but its a pain having find an extra CDJ or something or using the mouse to control the 3rd deck
