Extra Classic - Midi Controller Project

I have to give you props on this. After having to sell your decks, Im glad to see you got a new project.
Damn thats good looking

You sure frosted is a good idea?

I don’t doubt you cos your design skill is unquestionable but that black looks awesome..
The glossy does look fantastic I must admit but like MrPopinjay said it doesn’t take long before it’s covered in fingerprint marks and dust particles. This is the reason I’m going to use frosted acrylic.

The only downside to using frosted is that it is slightly translucent, but my plan was to buy some self adhesive vinyl sheet same colour as the Perspex and stick it to the underside.
you’ve got a really good eye for detail and finish mate… the prototypes look excellent!

can you show us some pictures of the tools you use to cut the plastic and wood? particularly the router/drill you use and the router bits. Maybe a video of you cutting some of the holes? Don’t think anyone’s done a build log like that yet…
Thanks Milo much apprieciated. I like to take pride in anything I build.

My work situation is not very good at the moment so tomorrow I will make something and take pictures for you including details of the tools used. (Sorry but Video cameras make me nervous )

Tell me about it Chris. That was a very sad day when the decks went but shit happens and seems to keep on happening to me. :disappointed:

At least they went to a good loving home  Big up djaerodynamite.

it was a very very sad day when i had to sell my 1200’s a few years back, had no choice… sold off all my studio/recording gear but selling the decks was the worst bit.

I’ve got the exact opposite problem with work that you have at the moment - and I know I shouldn’t complain - but I can’t get a minute to scratch my arse just now. It means my projects are on hold until I can find a bit of time.

I hope you find the right kind of balance between work and play, cos I certainly can’t. The only joy I’m having just now is catching up on the Forums at night and seeing my daughter for a few minutes when I get home.

Still waiting for my pot’s to arrive from Hong Kong so i got some more practice in this morning.

You left handed? Cause thats what the controller seems like it would be more to. How much would u sell this ECM for?

I’m loving the build, are u gonna use those midifighter style things though or are u gonna build different deck segments ??

sweet project bro, but you don’t need me to tell you that! what program did you use to make your tempate? and tell me it’s NOT photoshop CS2 (what we have in college)..

OUT. . . .FRIGGIN. . . .STANDING. . . .OVATION!!!

Excellent work!

Nastiiiiiii! Would love to be the owner of this wonerful piece of art!

BIG UPS BRO

this is so good that its…its…its…

its better than duct tape

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves…

Wow . . . You’re a boss! One day I will attempt something this ambitious (by my standards) and hope to have all my fingers remaining after completion.

In all seriousness, your midi controller would turn heads at an auto show. All the best with the final build.

any luck with some photos? :stuck_out_tongue:

don’t be shy with the videos… doesn’t need any talking over the top… just something showing how you cut the holes and what tools you use

extraman,

something i don’t understand, did you change your initial layout? because your prototypes don’t look anything like the original “mdf”

I believe he was just practicing cutting the holes. . .which is why we see 2 Midi fighter tops with the buttons. . .Midi Fighter Pro “Extra”!

Sorry guys been really busy the last few days - major progress including images and video coming tomorrow

(tapping foot)

Very interested to see how this turns out. Were you using the Nanokontrol as the brain for this?

the “M-Audio Xponent” was mentioned in the first post…

Your practice runs make my final attempts look like a 3 year olds coloring book. Would you be willing to part with the black one?
