Facebook pages: Tacky?

Facebook pages: Tacky?

Here’s something that’s been bothering me for a while: Is having a Facebook fanpage for yourself really, really tacky or no?

I feel like people would just roll their eyes at it. I’m just curious what you guys think.

I feel like facebook fan pages are just another, simpler, form of a myspace page. It’s a good place to post links to your mixes and tell people about your gigs. I think it’s sort of the same with all forms of online presence, you need to be able to back it up with your dj skills.

I absolutely agree with you. Plus the fact that you can actually upload tracks onto the pages now is cool (at least for your own tracks).

I don’t know. I just feel like it would mostly be a bunch of my friends. lol.

even if it’s just a bunch of your friends it still gets the word out. It is a networking site so if people become fans of your page it will recommend it to their friends too.

Alright well I went ahead and did it anyway. Who cares if it’s tacky?

If you would consider yourself a “fan” of my music, you should consider becoming a fan of mine on Facebook so it’s not just a bunch of my friends. lol.

Lots of us have them. And great for networking.

@ Lambox meet fan #7 dude

Likewise, meet fan number 230…

I really enjoy facebook for different DJ’s and producers. I’m not always checking every single individual myspace everyday, and it’s a great way to consolidate that from what I’ve found.

And in talking with other people, it seems like the fans get to know the person a bit more when they actually update posts and such. I know it’s part of why Deadmau5 is so popular, because he’s constantly updating his facebook and interacting with his fanbase not only through his music.

i actually think they are a bit tacky. i just use my personal page to invite/promote people–and its nothing thats super annoying like: HEY GUYZ THIS SAT. COME KICK IT WITH BESTLEGS AND FRIEND. KKTHANXBAI.

usually i try to invite personally on each page and we create invite pages to do the annoying work lol. but no fan page for me, i mean, i’m not Justice or something

fan no 12
and
fan no 231

Networking!

I’m torn between hating the act of “promoting myself” and feeling like I’m stupidly ignoring a great method of advertising/promoting.

I feel like any time I’m inviting friends to a show, I’m trying to sell them a sweet set of CutCo knives. Like they feel obligated to go b/c were friends but it’s not like that… When did it get so hard to get people to go to live shows???

I’ve got a group - I set it up before FB had “Fan” Pages.

It’s a alright to have a fan page, why not? Course it’s a bit self indulgant but at the end of the day peeps who like your music / mixes etc will want to know when you bring something out.

Most peeps are on facebook so is best place really.

Anyway i’m fan #17

mjy facebook page is actually just that it’s my personal facebook, all my friends are on there from school days family and work colleagues, along with people i have become friends with via the music side of things, admittedly i keep that pretty limited

always lovely to get an update from your group max

Thank you.

That’s the thing, I feel like it’s a bit obnoxious, but at the same time, anything helps…

lmfao, cutco knives man..my brother used to sell that shit for a while before he realized what a pyramid scheme it is..but i know exactly where you’re coming from man. i’m just trying to get people out because i know it’s gonna be a good time, but i feel like it comes off like another selfish promoter trying to make his ends..anyway

i like to take advantage of all avenues, i mean it’s free advertising really. the more places you are, the more established you seem to someone looking into you. but on the flipside, it’s like people that are fans still ask me when my next show is on my regular fb account, so i’m not sure how effective it is. i doubt most people check up on artists they’re a “fan” of, and probably seldom think about it unless they get an update from them (which they may or may not read). sometimes i think it’s more of a popularity contest with these pages, i mean what’s one of the first things you look at besides the picture? number of fans most likely.

but hey, it can’t do anything to hurt, so who cares :stuck_out_tongue:

I think facebook fan pages are essential! Where I am from facebook is the sole means for promotion and events. If tiesto has one, then why shouldnt any of us? haha. I’m pretty sure he has over 1,000,000 fans on his facebook page.

haha cheers Jester!! Following you too now btw
