Firebox question

Firebox question

Hey all and knowing, hahahah
If I purchased a Firebox by Presonus, are there any other cables or accessories that I would have to buy in order to install and use this soundcard? I have a macbook with a 400 firewire port and my speakers are Bose with RCA ends.

Rca to 1/4" plugs/adaptor? Assuming you connect to the bose via rca.

No the only 1/4" I have is my headphone adapter. My speakers have RCA plugs on the end. I do see on the Firebox that there are no RCA male or female plugs. I know that on the Numark for instance the connections are all RCA and on the Firebox they seem to be all 1/4".

I just know that I have to order a preamp or soundcard or interface or whatever you wanna call it.

The Firebox is an external sound card, and you are right, the outputs are 1/4" female connectors, so to connect your speakers you would need rca feamle to 1/4" male adapters. If your speakers are powered, I don’t think you would need anything else, if they are not, you would need an amplifier.

cool, however I’m using balanced 1/4" lead- can this be used with an RCA adaptor - which i believe is unbalanced???

Await your reply.

Thanks
G.

Re: Firebox question

should still work. “balanced” just means “grounded” really.

cool - that’ll save me some cash.

i was always told “balanced to balanced” and “unablanced to unbalanced”???

its just to connect my firewire box to a DJ mixer (RCA inputs)

well since they make things like this:

i’d assume it would be fine.

I pretty sure that you can go balanced to unbalanced without problem… it’s just that you’ll loose the pros of balanced signal

This cable is not balanced.. the 1/4" is TS, so unbalanced…
But anyway you can use them without problems…

Tell me I didnt screw up. I just received my Firebox today and my 1/4" adapter should be here tomorrow. Looking at the back of the unit I noticed a 1 left out and a 2 right out on the main output section. Please tell me that is not for a left and right speaker input each to make it a stereo pair. I hope I dont need a 1/4" MONO TO female RCA for each jack to make it a stereo output. I ordered a stereo 1/4" to l/r RCA cable or a “Y” cable I have a funny feeling that I ordered the wrong part. I think my VCI100 should be here tomorrow.

if you have 2 jacks on each side of the cable, you didn’t screw up.

so I need a 1/4" male mono to RCA female for both sides, which I didnt buy. I only ordered one mal stereo 1/4" to 2 female. So Im gonna actually have music coming out mono if both speakers are attached on one channel only…DAMN! I WISH I COULD GET THINGS RIGHT!!!

I was just gonna buy an Audio DJ4 which I should have. But I wanted to take advantage of the firewire port on my mac and free up my USB port for my controller.

You need this:

If your mixing externally you need 2 of those.

Dont sweat it. You have bought the best soundcard you will ever own..!

dude no worries, firebox is a hell of a card.

yeah, i got the the splitter but it dosent work in Stereo. all the outputs at the back are MONO. This meaning you have to get 2 jack to Phono (RCA) cables i.e. 1 for left (output 1) and the other for right (output 2).

The only stereo output on this card is the headfone socket!!!

correct they are mono, a person needs a cord like karlos posted

I dunno, word is a lot of Fireboxes will be found at firesales when the FireStudio Mobile gets better known :stuck_out_tongue:

whats the difference between the firestudio and firebox?? the out’s on the back have been changed to Line In’s, anything else major?

other than that not much of a difference?? better lay out out on the front though for sure

I got my firebox in June 09 for £150 so i cant grumble!
