okay so ive finally gotten my first club gig,
the promoter asked me to play a good deep house set, i have a lot of tech house
but can anyone share some good deep house tracks??
i dont really know where to start and i have a week and a half to buy some and learn them..
any help would be really appreciated
Lots of cross over between Deep & Tech House, what sort of Tech House do you play? Is the promoter after the current flavour of Deep House i.e. Eats, Tsuba, Local Talk, Seven, Large i.e. the Future/UK Garage/Bassier Deep House for want of a better expression?! Or more on the Soulful tip?
Best place to look for some instant gratification is Traxsource.com, they’re by far the best for House music IMHO and unlike Beatport their genre tagging is pretty much spot on.
theres the mix i sent through to the promoter and he said he enjoyed it, but asked if i can play him more of a deep house set next weekend.. so im really unsure haha sorry i dont have more info!
im trying to find the stuff with more bounce and vibe than the soulful chilled out deep house thats all over beatport if that makes sense :s hopefully ill get my head around all the sub genres pretty soon.. coming from playing commercial bangas at parties this is a big step for me!
Haha no problem. There’s like 5 versions, but that is most definitely the best one. I’m not a fan of deep, but when that bass comes in, it’s just euphoric.
they should be fine… i can be in the middle of the most minimal deep set, but thunder clap absolutly gets the crowd going… i think its the insanly chilled/spooky build!!! Brilliant song!
Better play it somehow then not at all.. Sometimes it works really well though
I had to do the same once with - Julio bashmore’s - battle for the middle, layered the vocals from sean pauls - temperature.
It worked ace, and now i use it at all my gigs, even the uber cool kids who hate the slightest commercial trak get down, i suppose for a crowd like that its slightly like a breath of fresh air.
Bashmore’s Au Seve and Dumont’s Need U (100%) are commercial enough to play alone, surely? I play them and they go down fine. That and Disclosure’s White Noise, the three most commercial deep tunes I can think of. I guess it’s different if you’re across the pond though.
There’s lots of different flavors of deep. I tend to play a lot of the deep moody kind of house mixed with a tech and nu-disco kind of sound for added spice. My last 20 or so shows have all followed this recipe.
EDIT: There’s also some techno, disco, Christmas music and punk rock mixed in there.
Same, but I can just push Au Seve and Need U before it’s too much. For me, anything that sounds like early Chicago house with modern production techniques is deep, and anything that’s Detroit house with the same production techniques is tech, but might as well be deep.
And, my mum likes deep house, cause it sounds like the whole 90’s detroit house movement. That’s how uncool it is. Or how cool my mum is. Whichever.
+1 on the Waze & Odyssey stuff, putting out some great tunes at the mo.
OP; For instant collection; Deep House: Get Deep House Tracks on Traxsource. It’s not something I always suggest to do (as better to dig as well) but as time is short, just go through the latest releases and Top 20, take a listen and pick out the tracks you like and think might fit in with what promoter is looking for, then check the labels/producers to widen your search. That will at least get you out of jail for this gig, best of luck
