Free DJ Website Design? Be my guinea pig!

Free DJ Website Design? Be my guinea pig!

Hey all, let’s try this again…

I’m a Web Designer looking to build up my portfolio and I need some real DJs to design websites for. No catches or gimmicks, I’ll create you a fully functional website with all the features you need.

First come first serve but please, serious applicants only!.
The only cost would be hosting/domain name, which is somewhere around $60 for a year’s hosting and a domain name. I don’t see a penny of that money either…

If you’re interested, pm the following to me.

Name:
Email:
DJ Alias:
Do you have hosting/domain name?
Do you have a logo?
What is your music hosted on?(Soundcloud, Bandcamp etc)
Anything else that I should know?

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Cheers, Misha

Have you got any exaples of your work to see and what languages will you use to write the site

you got pm

They will be done as custom themes for Wordpress. So html/css and php.

I’m pretty new to the scene so I don’t have too many sites up but here are some examples. Some of them are pretty crappy because they were done in school when I was just learning but my skills have improved quite a bit since then.

A bit of advice cms systems do have there places this site is built on one and it serves it purpose well. However for a djs site I wouldnt say its a good idea.

Your sites are slow to respond this is not due to bandwidth it is due to the servers processing speed. If you have a bit of php under your belt learn a bit more and pritty soon you can build your sites using php just as quick have alot more control.

Honestly in the long run it will benefit you massivly

Hmm… although Content Managment Sytems may run a bit slower they provide the flexibility for the DJ to easily manage their own sites.

Learn 20 php commands and 20 mysql and you can do that yourself. Do you understand how loops and variables work? You might also need to use super globals but nothing too complicated

I don’t see the point of building your own custom PHP and SQL CMS, when that’s exactly what wordpress is…

Wordpress 3 is very fast, and it’s customisable, lots of massive websites use it.

No offence intended misha, but it’d work on your design sensiblities a bit more. Read up on graphic design grids etc, get some fonts, read up about colours etc. Learn CSS. Read up on PHP so you can tweak wordpress.

Its quicker to build a small site from scratch rather than spending hours tweaking word press

yes i suppose you could say that, but it’s also quicker to install wordpress, than code up a small site with less functionality.

Different strokes for to different folks!

It’s not a bad way to learn CSS, and PHP rooting around the installation files of wordpress.

both methods have there pros and cons I just find that on shared hosting wordpress can be very slow

No offense taken, as I stated those examples are very old in terms of my ability now. That’s why I created this thread so I can have some real projects to build up my portfolio.
I will do a follow up thread once I complete my first website (which is for xtianw)just to prove it .
