Getting 2 more lights?

Getting 2 more lights?

Ok,

So im starting to not like the ADJ Jellyfish and I already have a TriLed vertigo. I currently purcashed a Kinta X and im looking in to get two more? Id be willing to spend most likely a max of 150-200$ on each new light? you guys please tell me your thoughts! Would not prefer dots or plastic lights. I like chauvet metals! Those are nice and effective. Any ideas? Also tell me your setup!

My setup:
Chauvet Trident
Chauvet LED Techno Strobe
Chauvet Scorpion Storm FX

The Trident is a great centerpiece effect and you can find them for around $150. I’m actually in the market for some new lights too so I’m interested to see where this post goes. I would love some scanners or some moving heads but they might have to wait a little while.

LED Shadow, get two for symetrical effect. Blows the dance floor into a frenzy every time

sell what you have now, and just buy scanners (chauvet intimidator 100’s are inexpensive and great starter lights). Then prepare to have a much better light show than anyone who owns the same/similar corny lights you have now.

Im not a big fan of scanners :stuck_out_tongue:

1+ to Sobi. Scanners are more professional feeling than alot of lights. Chauvet 4 plays are sick, but the best light purchase i’ve ever made was the chauvet Motion Fascade. kinda pricey but damn it makes me all warm inside. lol

EDIT: or get a hazer/foger. those are essential. also, you running all of these DMX?

Understandable. Having a decent lightshow isn’t for everyone.

more like i dont feel like the people my age would like those lights. those seem too “simple” for me.

no DMX

ahh well dont worry about new lights, focus on DMX equipment. For a DJ its good to have lights, but if you have a billion lights on sound activated mode its wayyyy too over powering. Get a DMX controller and set up some general scenes for the type of music you play. DMX gives you so much more control and timing on your lights it can really make or break the show visually imo.

check out the vid my VJ partner made just to test out a few of his lights and it will kinda show you how dmx makes a diffrence. (if im coming off as a douche im sorry, im just trying to help out)

A DMX is like a controller right? And another question, my friend has 4 lights (all chauvet) and he links them all together somehow with what looks like power cords to me into all the lights (they are all linked together) and one of the lights has the power plug in. In simple, he doesnt have to plug in all the lights into the surge protector, only one power chord for all four lights? What is this? DMX do it?

Thats called “daisy-chaining”. its good because it takes up less space on surge protectors and such. But DMX is using a controller such as

To control as many lights as that controller can handle. (that one is what we use, can control 12 lights). And you program scenes using the line faders to select what you want each light to be doing during each scene. Like say its a calm house beat and you want the strobes to hit on the bass drum, but want some other lights accenting the melody, and other lights on the syth. You set each light to what you want it to do and save to a single button scene. And DMX lights have so much customization options (how fast, fade in/out time, color, size, patterns, ect) you can make it sync up with anything and make it really bring it all together visually.

But does your friend set up to where his lights change and are diffrent from each other or do they all do the same thing?

Nah he doesnt own DMX. He just has them do whatever they do on sound activation modes.

Who has better lights anyway in your guys’s opinion?
Chauvet or ADJ? Idk i just feel Chauvet looks more pro

They let you pay in 4 payments if its over $250.
If i was you i’d budget myself to spend $1,000 and you’ll only have to pay $250 for four months.

I’d recommend no other way to do unless you found a steal on craigslist.

listen to these guys on the forum, they know what they are talking about.

A light show can be simple and cost effective if done right the first time.
every time you buy a light make sure its something you can add to your current light set-up tastefully.

I would buy a good mid-range priced laser with DMX controls and 2 DMX controlled strobes.

That probly be around $800-1000 with dmx controller

Then i’d invest in a good projector to display graphics in the middle.

that’d probly be $1500 total if you shop around and get deals.
i hope this helps and you make the right choice

i prefer Chauvet because most of the lights we use are from them are pretty good quality with pretty durable housing (for the most part, there are exceptions) But ADJ makes some really good stuff too you just gotta really research what you’re getting. A laser and strobes with a projector would be pretty ideal setup, but with that you’d need a program to run on the projector and that could cost you another little bit. But if you take anything from this info: look into DMX it will blow your mind how amazing it is, research what you want and how it would fit into your music/setting you wanna create, quality over quantity. Have fun

thanks man! one last q, how do i daisy chain? all i have for the light cables is the ones the companies shipped me with the light product (aka whatever was inside the box which was mainly the power cord to get to the outlet)

You have to use DMX cabling. Simple in/out connections, with the first unit being set to master, and the rest being set to slave.

Eche: to daisy chain the power cables you need to look on the back and see if it has a outlet looking imput, and if so just plug each light into the next and the last into the outlet, but you gotta know the output voltage of each and make sure it doesnt surpass your surge protector or outlet. (doubt it will with just a few lights)
