Good Read on Beginner Music Production

Does anyone have some good reads for a beginner interested in getting deep into electronic house music . It can be books or online, just the basics though. Thanks!

Somebody got me “Music Theory For Computer Musicians” by Michael Hewitt for Christmas. I’ve been a DJ for about 10 years but have had no “proper” musical theory training so this book has been invaluable in helping me along in my production skills.

If you already have a good grounding in musical theory (chords, scales, tempo and the like) then it may be a bit noddy for you, but if your just starting out, or would like to write better sounding tunes, I highly recommend it!

A good free alternative may be having a good read of the manual from your DAW. If you better understand the tools your using, you will be able to do more with it!

As a last piece of advice, I subscribe to Sonic Academy, which is chock full of tutorials in making all different types of electronic dance. Their “How To Make” series guide you through absolutely everything you need to make lots of different tracks. Check out their free videos for a taster!

Hope this helps!

There is a guy on this forum, who has a pretty good set of tutorials on arranging, creating transitions, mixing and mastering. Here his website http://tarekith.com/tutorials-and-reviews/

Also personal suggestion from a personal experience, listen to the artists you like, try to figure out your self what is the structure the song, and what part comes in to when. Also there are plenty of tutorials on youtube, where people just replicated songs of the famous producers, so for example if you like the Avicii songs, you can easily download tutorials and examine how Avicii structures his songs. Those tutorials may not be as accurate but at least you will get the basic idea !

Hope that helps !
