Hawtin Effect

Hawtin Effect

Hey guys,

this has buggin me for a while now, hawtin always uses this one effect in his sets, i cant figure out how he does it and its really hard to descibe it here. il give it a shot though: the effect sounds kinda like the pioneer robot effect and once he starts it he increses the “pitch” (maybe better to say frequency i mean how “high” it sounds) building up a drop in itself. it completely distorts the original sound. if any of u guys have the song handy, assign the source by reboot has a similar effect at 4:17. any ideas? cant find it in traktor pro.

Cheers!

maybe its the Reverb effect… i use that alot to do what i think you are describing, but he is also using ableton in his sets, so it could be a vst that he is using in ableton…

yeah its definately similar to the reverb just much more intense. ive never used ableton so could be from there…

maybe the delay3 with the frr button pressed?

Do you mean the effect on this vid at 2:00?

In that case he is using T3 delay effect without the Quant button and he is increasing the speed of the delay

@alien that not quite the one i meant but i was also always wonderin how he did that! cheers!
the one im lookin for is his “other signature effect” haha. sorry for being so wage guys.

Find an example on a vid or set and we will figure it out

i think

he means this one at 3:00

been searchin all evenin but can only find richie using the effects you have already suggested. its in this song here, if not to the full extent, starts at 4:14.

just been playing round with the delay t3 and FRZ and FR.R buttons. think u guys are right with the delay t3 and FRZ and FR.R buttons. what exactly do these do?

you can check this effect sample at the traktor bible site:
http://www.traktorbible.com/en/fx_usecases.aspx
let us know if it’s the right FX

he´s using the lexicon psp 42 delay plugin inside ableton and mapped this to one of his xones. the delay fx from traktor can make some similiar sounds but it sounds different. you can´t reproduce this effect 100 % inside traktor, if so somebody should make a vid. i want to see it.
you need a host sequencer that can be synced with traktor over midi or osc , ableton is the best for sure. then you need a high quality delay plugin like the lexicon psp 42 which he uses, that can be unlinked from the timings. set the feedback nearly to full, increse the dry/wet , freeze the delay and play with timing ( unlinked ). it´s not easy but trial and error will definitly reproduce this effect.

thanks v-hoff thats a pretty useful page!
@beatkind yeah that sounds right, the delay t3 sounds similar but is not quite the same. havnt got ableton unfortunately so the traktor one will have to do :disappointed:

Thats just an echo being wound right down if you mean whats happening at 4.14. Sounds like a bit more happenin afterwards though.

thank vHoff ur da man, wonder if it work w/T3 (Keeping it old school) <(----Starting to sound like steveboyett!

hey JesC since you liked it and you are a moderator, we could make a thread with only Fx cases, dont you think?
I would start it if I was a bit more experienced DJ to contribute with others…
We’ll rise the forum access for sure, everybody wants to use FX, it’s the funniest part of traktor, at least for me

Create a template post like this:

Effect Name:
( )Super, ( )Advanced, ( )Simple
Best used in: (Electro, House, Psytrance, DnB, etc)
Mapping Instructions: (optional)
Method Description: (description of how is maked the FX on your hardware of choice)
Sample mp3 (soundcloud or youtube) embed

What do you think?

here here. i’m still rocking traktor 3.2 … lovin it and still learning new ways to use it!

Did you get it to work? I itried it with ableton lexicon psp 42. How about someone to make a vid of it?

i tried it and it definitely goes in the same way but i wouldn´t do it in a live situation because it often souns quite bad when i do it… but i got i to work a few times, much training is needed ( for me )
