Headphones vs. Speakers

Headphones vs. Speakers

Pros and cons?

One your neighbors like, and one they don’t :slight_smile:

I find effects like reverb and delay are much easier to dial in on speakers myself.

Monitors seem to give me a better view of how a sound ‘fills a room’ and gels. I can hear the constituent parts of a song a bit better on headphones though… I use both all the time.

Know each one and KNOW the one you use, INSIDE and OUT, like the EQ/Frequency Response I.e., does it color it? Is it savvy to the bass, mid’s, the highs etc.?

I love Beyerdynamics when mastering as they sound beautiful and are so wonderfully flat that you HAVE to make your sound, well, bust through these beaut’s but again I’ve used them for over a decade along with tons of other reference kit and, ‘tools’ as well as I’ve mastered very efficiently in Audacity using Skullcandy earbuds lolol!

It’s all about knowing your A/B comparison and comparing your monitoring to that of what you know it sounds like vs your system, on mainstream, professional monitors. Check your mix with every set of your senses that you can!

Know the numbers but KNOW that knowing what to boost(CUT mostly, it’ll save ya ass :wink: when where how why all those are literally second nature to me but again, long time doing the whole ME/AE/Producer/Composer shit, all of it haha

Atm I have this really funny sony surround sound system hooked up(don’t ask lol) and I mix through my S4 into a alto 6 channel with a little AE trick sending the highs to these silly ass Bluetooth/aux/RCA Speakers, but it’s a hobby thing, routing the oddest shit to make sound plausible with any source.

But anyways my point is I reference in some of the most hated ways, but I read this once,
In summation.
It was an interview’esque block quote in this book;
Some huge ME who masters on $20 computer monitors (remember we ALWAYS A/B/C/D in the end so get your hands on or find a way to pop that track in anywhere that has a new POV/R, also car speakers still will win for the best ref run haha!)
It’s because he knows the sound and the system and the protocol

Do yourself a favor and get some Beyerdynamic DT770 Pros they’re cheap and the warranty on them is ridiculous!

Also they’re a hidden gem but search out any set of reputation which speaks o n this topic and the DT770 Pro’s are pimp city!

But I also will mix and master on Skullcandy Titans, but AGAIN I know my reference :wink:
Much luck brother!
