I am stuck between these three headphones which i will use soley for DJing:
Pioneer HDJ500
Sennheiser 25
Technics RP DH1200
I love the look of the Pioneers, but i heard that they break quite easy, whilst the Technics also look great and have great reviews along with the Sennheiser. At the moment, i would say the Technics because they have great reviews and also look great. Thoughts? Cheers : )
I would say Hd 25’s they have the best isolation and that’s all that really matters if you play in clubs. Obviously sound quality has a small part to play but not much but none of them would have crap sound quality anyway? Have you thought about a pair of urbanears zinken? They are really strong quality and have good isolation as well.
yeah they are all pro standard i guess so they will all do the job just fine, but obviously i want to make the best choice. i havnt heard of the urbanears zinken. Well i just googled it and they seem to be great also. Very true about the isolation with the sennheisers, that is very important. Its a toss up between the Sen’s and the Technics i think
+1 the Pioneers are possibly one the worst sounding “dj” headphones out there, and they feel horrible to wear.
Also check out the HD25 Amperiors which can be had for almost half the price of the HD25 - with the same build as the new HD25 Alu, some say they sound better.
Thanks to all who replied. Yes i had a search online about the Urban ears zinken. They look amazing. But there are a lack of reviews online as they are relatively a new product. I feel comforted by the positive reviews of the Sen HD25’s so that is probably now my choice…at the moment
Probably because when you do a side by side comparison with a decent set of headphones you come away with a sense of disgust. However they tick enough boxes for non-critical audio applications like DJ’ing Live e.g. Loud, Robust and Stylish.
Yes, alongside my own MDR-V6’s, HD-25’s and Marshall Studios the latter two which were available to demo in the same shop they didn’t hold a candle to any of them.
I’ve always been using Sennheiser headphones and I can tell they’re durable and super high quality sound. I’d suggest them with no doubts, even if the other two options are very good though
As I would of thought, seeing as those headphones are twice the price.
On the other hand, they are more than capable in a loud booth. They got a good ragging on Sunday night connected to a Xone 92 and to be honest sounded fine. They can hold there own well enough. From a build stand point, think they will be able to take a lot of abuse, though only time will tell. The replaceable cable is also a massive benefit.
They are a good alternative at a much lower price point, there not going to blow you away with sound quality, no. But at that price would you expect them too.
They are not supposed to be used for listening, they are for DJing which doesn’t need the best sound quality. They are good at what they were made for and are cheap so for me that means they are a decent set of phones. What can you really buy for £40 these days? Not a lot! And the turncable is a genius idea if you prep your set on a laptop or phone on the way to a gig.
Actually the V6’s Pro “big brother” the MDR-7506 (which I ended up buying as a replacement after 15 yrs of gigging the V6’s) cost around $25 less than the Urbanears currently on Amazon, the HD25 Amperior can be had for under $150 if you look around and the Marshalls for under $150 on amazon … so hardly double the price… anyhoooo’s
As you said, they are fine for Gigging, although personally for $100 I would expect at least a tolerable sound when plugged into my iPhone/Computer outside of the clash of sounds that is a DJ box.
The 2 sets you are comparing them to are actually studio headphones and not DJ headphones so not really a good comparison, I have a set of Sony mdr 7510 and in my opinion they are terrible for DJing and that is where the zinken come in. As Amadeus said, if you want listening phones buy seperate ones but the op asked for DJ headphones.
Actually the 3 sets were Studio headphones, buts who’s counting
Your right, everyone should ditch equipment not designed for the job as they must be useless e.g. Technics Turntables, simply not up to the rigors of DJ’s hehe.
I’m out - your money, your choice, enjoy, have fun
