Help, need some technics info....

What do you mean ‘flog your HTD’s’…are suggesting I should sell some gear gear ?
That would be blasphemy, so not an option

Still thinking about 2 options…

  1. use it for hifi use with some classy vintage gear
  2. buy another SL1200 MKII and build a scratch set-up (so I can start using my DJM909 again ).

I prefer option 2, but finding one in same condition will be impossible.
So maybe my first restauration project is on it’s way

Exactly! i have waited & searched for 2 years to complete my pair of 1210mk2…even though the advertisement looks mint, but sometimes shit happens.
Mine arrived in a pretty bad shape, poor thing had to travel all to way from UK :disappointed:

You lucky son of a bitch ! I paid 550 euros for my 1210s, with a small bit of cosmetic wear and tear and one of the feet were missing.

And it’s so nice to see a fellow Belgian around here

This is normal on old 1200’s. Two of my 1200’s were bought used in 1986(!), the 3rd was bought used in 1995, and they all do this.

I’ve done it again…

After finding that minty fresh 1200 MKII, I was on a mission finding a matching one also in mint condition.
During the last weeks, I found/checked out some (250 - 400 euro) but the were not ‘mint’ & all had a dj history…no bueno for that kind of money.

Then I went to check out a vinyl collection last friday (+500 singles, 150 maxi’s & +150 albums) after work.
A great collection with a lot of black & disco, the thing I was after…these kind of records are not cheap, so asked for his best price… he told me he was asking 350 for the lot.

I already pay 1,5 euro for a (scratched) album @ recycle stores and since I liked a lot of them… I wanted to say the magic words…“We have a deal”. But then I noticed some warped records and decided to check them records more closely. About 40 vinyls were warped and I mentioned it to the seller (not mentioning that there was only 1 or 2 I liked of those 40) and found some albums with damaged covers.

Next thing, he asked me what kind of record player I have…I told him dual (little lie, I have one somewhere).
"Ever used a technics ? ", he asked me… I said no (BIG LIE)

I have one boxed up, it’s in great shape… If you buy all the records for 350,you can have that one for free.
“Yes” I said while already packing all the stuff in my car… I didn’t look at the technics (I would be happy with a broken one…) and I didn’t want to give him time to think that deal over.

So what’s in the box ?

A never been touched SL1210 MKII with pickering XV-15, original box & papers & mint dustcover.
SWWWWWIIIIIIING ! :notes: And the records are awsome 2 !

Bonus 1: the wifey loves the plastic boxes the records came with (cover & wheels) to store our daughters toys in

Bonus 2: I made 200 euro buying & selling a vintage spring reverb (turnover 1 week) that funded more then half of this deal. So 150 euro for a shitload of records & a minty SL1210.

Bonus 3: some great boxes in this collection (exp. The dance decade 1973 - 1983, 14 vinyls: http://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Dance-Decade-1973-1983/release/664967)

One more deal like this and I’m quitting my day job !

Ps. serial says production date = july 2008

WOW ! What sites do you check for deals like that ?

Forget about Kapaza & 2ehands… everybody is looking over there (although I found that first 1200 on kapaza but with wrong title)
Look at koopjeskrant, local adds (streekkrantje), rommelmarkten, forums (9lives), … stuff like that.
Ebay.de & ebay.com can give good results (and I don’t have to pay taxes or intern. postage)

Just stay away from the obvious channels…and then you will find what you need.

Next thing i’m after is one of those fisher price turntables (with batteries) for using at record fairs.
Let me know if you know one for sale.

Great post. Thanks.

But Fisher Price ? That’s ridiculous. Aren’t there similar models from an “adult” brand ?

Your welcome, let me know what you are looking for then I will keep an eye open.

Dont laugh with the FPTT ! ;p
It’s the best portable system I’ve seen…the real vinyl junkies at the fairs all have 'm
The return is huge because most sellers don’t have listening possibilities.

I’m browsing trough stacks of vinyl & singles…will post some pictures 2morrow.

Christ you lucky bastard:expressionless: Just bought myself a pair of 1200s not too long ago, but now I’m already looking for some cheap 1210s…
