I did good !
Hey all, thanks for posting…
Here is the full story…
When I saw the TT, I right away knew I had found some gold.
Just plugged it in, pitch @ 0 and strobe dots were stable.
That was enough for me, didn’t want to give the impression that I knew what to look for.
I paid and walked out with a BIG smile on my face.
Once I came home, I started to clean the TT & check everything.
There was some dust, but not much like the original pictures already showed.
The lady told me that it was not used much and it residented a warm & dry storage room the last 10 years (in a box with dust cover).
I checked all the cords (all orginal), pitch, strobe & pop-up light (working perfect), pitch (working perfect), dust cover in great condition and below the platter all looked like new. Same goes for the outside, mint/perfect condition ! Not one mark or blemish anywere…never seen this before. It could be a showroom-version… So not much to do, oiled the motor after reading the service manual, some cailube in the pitch fader and that is about it.
Three problems/to do’s detected:
- Pop-up lamp really pop’s out…I tought this should normaly go slow
- The cue lever is not working atm (I was able to press it down and tighten the screw so it can be used).
- Polish the dust cover to perfection
Then I did some research on the serial and what do you think ?
It’s a ‘stange’ one…
DA06 23C062
According to the SL1200 wiki, this means an early production units.
So a 1978 or 1979 version in mint condition, I don’t think these are very common.
Wiki states:
“DA22 17D142” and “MJ7821F287” are examples of serial numbers seen on early production units that both lacked mounting provisions for the internal “bottom base” (Technics part # SFAU122-02) and possessed a different style of dust cover hinges."
If some knows more about this (Xonetacular ?) I would love to hear it… it could be right tho, besides the faulty SL-D1 manual (because of early production maybe ?) it also had a manual for an Marantz 1060 amplifier (early 70’s) & Kenwood KT-8005 stereo tuner (1970’s) in the plastic sheet.
And now some pictures !

After I found those manuals, I called them again to see if they still had that Marantz or Kenwood..but the Kenwood died, no info about the 1060 yet. If that last one becomes available, I bet I can pick that up cheap (and will do so).
Thanks again for all the replies !
Ps. I paid 100 EU for the SL (luck of the Irish ? ;p)
Pss. My current setup is 2x HTD 4.5, 2x cdj2000, Xone 92r, TSP2 & audio 8, X1, Macbook Pro…so I don’t NEED it (pure GAS-behaviour).
