I’m looking for some help trying to figure out what i would need to power my set up while out on small trips. I dont need a set up to floor people by any means. For example, I am attending Electric Forest Festival (which is going to be fucking epic) and would like to set my Traktor S4 up at my camp site for my friends and neighbors, what would i need to use to power this? We should be camping next to our car, unless they change that set up.
My set up for this situation:
Traktor S4
MacBook Pro 15" i7
2 KRK RP-8 (older boxier version)
(maybe even 2 blacklights and a small kaliedescope laser)
i’ve been looking on amazon.com a little bit but idont know very much about electrical systems, so if anyone has any ideas let me know
You can probably get away with the EU2000i model. I used to own the model and it easily powered a Mackie 15" and laptop. Where you may get into trouble is running lights at the same time. It’s best to have clean power for your laptop and speakers. If the lights start to flicker, start unplugging each until you get more power.
Yamaha also makes a quiet model generator. These style of gennies allow you to get away with not having to run a 10 mile extension cord. One piece of very important advice that trumps anything I’ve typed thus far, lock the generator up with a thick chain and good lock! They are very easy to walk away with.
Keep an eye on the wattage in comparison with the speakers you want to run. The other stuff pulls very minimal power in comparison.
Also make sure that “renegade” stages are approved and allowed at the event. I know that some camping events nowadays don’t allow them, and you can get shit for it. But the small generator is a good idea, either buying or renting one. It’s probably not a bad thing to have around anyhow.
Though, I will have to say some of the renegade happy hardcore stages at various events I’ve been to have both been extremely pleasing in memory, and hard as fuck to sleep through lol.
I understand what your saying about the renegade stage thing, which is why im down to mix some mimosa, emancipator, mt. eden, and other ambient/chill out/ into the sunset, i just cant sleep at fests and am tired of not finding some music to get down to, so why not just set something small and semi quiet at my campsite .
I actually work at an amazon.com warehouse, and among the many cool things i see everyday, is wear i saw a small power charger that looked as though it could handle the small tasks im asking. im waiting on someone to bring me the item in aminute so if its one that works ill post it.
after reading a little i take that back about the duracell, i don’t think it could power both of my 90 watt speakers, plus my s4/laptop…trying to avoid the generator at all costs but its starting to look like i’m out of options…
There’s cheaper alternatives available, but I think you’ll spend at least $500 unless you can rent one. You could think of it as an investment as it gives you the ability to have a small party anywhere at anytime.
Get the Honda 2000i generator. Honda gennies are worth every penny. The community I’m a part of has been using them for years and have never had a problem.
This was a while back, but I was setting them up at a campout party and someone had left out multiple gas cans, and failed to label the diesel ones from the gas ones. So I inadvertently filled it with diesel. Not a problem for the Hondas. We popped the cover, drained the tank (Hondas come with a built in tank plug unlike a lot of gennies) flushed/filled it with regular gas and it was good to go!
Also the eco-throttle will let you party all night without having to refill the tank.
Yeah i was going to suggest the Honda, but couldn’t find one on Amazon. They’re great little generators and I doubt you would be able to hear it over music.
It will def handle your equipment . Maybe pick one up and try it out to see if the charge will last long enough…worst case scenario is that it doesnt hold long enough and you cant return it and you’re stuck w it…it’s not a bad thing to have laying around anyways.
Hey would love to know how you ended up powering your setup ??
I am looking at a similar situation - would prefer to use the Duracell Powerpack - would be looking at around 4 - 6 hours playtime - not sure if that will charge it ??
