How about a dedicated midi fighter iPad/iPhone app?

How about a dedicated midi fighter iPad/iPhone app?

Just an idea, lots of people are using iPads (and iPhones/iPods) with things like touchOSC to make iPad emulations, but it’s a bit difficult to replicate 4 banks mode.

I don’t actually have an iPad, but I wondered if DJTT and the community would be interested in creating a dedicated app that outputs the same midi data over WiFi, with updates to emulate new firmware versions etc. It would also mean the interface could be pimped with big old arcade buttons.

What do you think? I suppose there would be a worry that you might undermine the sales of real midifighters, but if you charged $5 for it that could be a nice little earner for DJTT and another service from this great site!

Found this on YT:

Yeh I know it’s already possible with existing applications, I just thought it would a fun thing for DJTT to do, customisable arcade buttons in the GUI etc. Get the Midifighter brand out there even more in the public domain.

Yes, you’re right.

EDIT:

With the latest firware midi note can be’ send also with USB!! I tried with wifi, so damn slow, latency is too high.
Over USB would be’ great and simpler.
My 2c

I was thinking it would be cool for Traktor or Mixxx to make a scaled down iPad app that could be controlled with a Midifighter for the ultimate in portable set-ups…

Basic functions would be:

Two Decks
Highs/Mids/Lows
Cross Fader
Mappable Effects
iTunes integration
Midi Input

Am I alone here?

I created a TouchOSC layout and PureData patch for the iPhone and you may find it
http://www.djtechtools.com/forum/showpost.php?p=254621&postcount=168
in that post.

I can also make a TouchOSC layout for the iPad if anyone is interested.

However, for a dedicated app I’d be happy to contribute in terms of software development.

Did you try linking it with an ad-hoc connection? it’s quite solid and latency is negligible from my experience (OS X).
