I have taken my Allen & Heath Xone:4D to be repaired…
How can I get ableton 9 to load without my 4D that is set?
Without the Xone:4D, ableton hangs upon boot (windows).
I thought of temporarily changing ableton to use my Native Instruments Audio 10.
You’ll need to change the Audio Interface in the Preferences - but, if your not even able to open Live, I don’t know how you’ll get to teh preferences page.
Maybe try runing as Admin?
no dice running as administrator.
Uninstalling the 4d ASIO drivers worked…
which means re-installing them once I get beck to the repairer to test my 4D.
How long does it hang for? HAve you tried just letting leaving it and seeing if Live opens?
There should be a pop-up saying that audio playback has been disabled due to the missing audio interface. I sometimes find myself waiting a long time for Live to start up when my audio interface has been unplugged, because the clicked on another program and the pop-up gets hidden. A similar case can occur with an additional monitor.

I’ve managed to use decks C+D of traktor to run output of ableton in and line from tower to my audio 10 temporarily, whilst I await the outcome.
and Decks A+B in traktor are still controlled by the timecodes on my 1200 mk2 technics
My ipad running TouchOSC is the controller for running traktor in internal mixing mode.
I can continue to play my live sets online.
will look quirky to be using my ipad between two vinyl decks though.
Once I uninstalled the Xone:4D ASIO drivers, I got that pop-up / dialogue box, and was able to select the audio 10.
Weird seeing this, if my interface is unplugged it’ll tell me and I’ll just hit OK and Live will open and play out of my laptops output, or headphones if plugged in. Weird.
My ableton sometimes takes like 2 mins to load once the add pops.

ran into a similar problem A while back. (I blew my onboard soundcard and my controller/soundcard was still on location)
you can install VBAudio + Asiobridge (both free) and In combination With Jack Audio System you have everything you need (I still use it as some manual version of Rewire (the mixtrack pro is my controller in the screenshot
the voicepro thingy is a software mixer (midi controllable) so un nessecary but with jack & catia you can route jour audio to anywhere you like (even nowhere) without ableton realizing , its persistent for every app you want it to be
in ableton u must use Jack router(configured with asio portaudio) , butin tracktor can use jack system itself
If I was at home running Ableton through USB audio soundcard and then I brought my laptop to work or whatever, just using the onboard sound, Ableton would hang for a while, before it would open.
Have you left it for a while, without getting impatient with it?
This might be a silly question.. but what would you do with Ableton and no audio interface?

Unless you can prove there is some Live DRM that somehow affects soundcard selection in a cracked version.
It is ABSOLUTELY NOT a silly OR ignorant accusation because I have seen things like this with my own eyes on cracked copies of live. Many MANY times.
P.S., why would I waste my time trying to prove something like this? All I simply asked the dude is if it was cracked. I get no money from Ableton. I could give 2 squirts of piss if he uses a cracked copy. I asked because I have seen cracked copies act like this. No other reason…
Youre just wrong mate. I realise you have seen it and are trying to be helpful, but its just a coincidence. It happens all the time in computer troubleshooting if you dont nail down the variables.
There is no DRM in Live that affects soundcard selection. There just isnt.

You might want to read what you actually said to the OP. You made a statement, you didnt ask a question.
You first said that ‘it sounds like a cracked copy of Live’, and then you said ‘are you lying to me’
You very clearly asserted the OP was using a crack.
