How do you remember wicked mixes?!

How do you remember wicked mixes?!

Do you write them down?

Rapid Evolution has an amazing ‘mixout’ function where you can save your mixouts. I was going to use RE alongside Itch but it’s too much fiddling around on the computer. I wish Itch had this functionality.

I’ve started storing them in a spreadsheet and then writing a * in the comments field so I know I’ve stored a mixout but it’s pretty time consuming!!!

not sure if its what you mean but if you got a mac its pretty easy to write things down on stickies in the dashboard. its what I do.

I don’t need to - they’re wicked every single time :sunglasses:

On a more serious note, I just use the comments section of Traktor and Post-Its.

Traktor saves the history and I can then save that as an webpage or export the whole thing along with the mp3’s to store it all together on disc.

I just save mine as a playlist in itunes.

My brain. I actually try to remember more the ones that absolutely suck the massive donkey cock. Definitely don’t want to make that mistake twice.

Yeah probably writing it in the comments is the easiest/best way.

I hate when I’m playing out and I remember that a track mixed perfectly in but can’t remember what it was!

KNOW your tracks! also create your playlist ahead of time! also, WRITE THAT SHIT DOWN!

Hell yes!

ewwwww - I know too many people who do this. You might as well bung a iPod in the corner

I use the comments section of the mp3 myself - two sections, what comes in well, what goes out well, and sometimes even the track marker that I should start the mixout on …

#1 is probably the most important. I create short playlists with tracks that I know work together. Then I mix from playlist to playlist according to mood.

everyone does a bit of ‘prep work’ even if it’s only deciding the first couple of tracks :stuck_out_tongue:

yes, i have groups of 3-4 songs i know work well but by all means no set is written in stone. where it really helps is when i run across one of the thoes tunes while in a mix because you know it will work real well for the next 15-20 mins and can focus on whats going on down the line

Yes!

If you are getting paid top dollar to play a huge party…i will really hope you have a playlist before hand.

A few actually!

Its NOT the same as an iPod as its up to you how you layer the tracks and mix em.

If usually have a playlist…unless its a smaller club … just another night type vibe.

I have a little spreadsheet that I, for a while at least, was filling out while practicing. It’d tell me which songs went into other songs and such… The thing is I rarely use it. When a set is going well, the power of the groove takes over and I always seem to know exactly which track to bring in next. I will rely on it from time to time though if I’m not sure where to go with a mix.

I think it comes down to knowing your songs, setting cue points, making the occasional note, and practicing!:slight_smile:

I write my playlists down on paper and write notes next to them..I know I could do this on my mac with stickies but when I’m mixing I try to strictly stay in traktor and not mess around with other stuff to avoid any chance of crashing

‘Trainspotter’ (freeware) has a function where it checks your history & writes the tracks you’ve mixed together & the # of times you’ve done it, in the traktor ‘mix’ field.

When you do a search on a song, the songs you have mixed them with comes up.

Great proggy but still a bit buggy
