How many controllers?

How many controllers?

Two questions:

  1. How many controllers is it theoretically possible to control one edition of Traktor at the same time? Im guessing there must be a limit to the amount of midi/NHL messages that Traktor can handle at any one time.

  2. How many controllers is ‘enough’? What is the positives and negatives of having a massive setup of a number of controllers to control a setup?

This is purely out of interest after seeing Richie Hawtin last night using three X1’s and a Xone 92. His setup (plus a Maschine!!!) can be seen here:

  1. its not about what traktor can handle, its your computer

  2. its all about the individual persons work flow, budget and preference.

i could be wrong

  1. all of them
  2. a. five
    b. yes

ps: how many button, knobs and sliders do you need?

I use ONE Kontrol X1, because I dont like having to keep track of button states for numerous different controllers.

I own two X1’s, as well as two denon DN-SC2000’s, but when I play, I use my heavily custom mapped X1…

Anything more than that adds too much room for error, as well as too much unnecessary complication, at least in my opinion.

My favorite controller is one that will do everything you need, and nothing you dont…

…luckily I have found mine.

There’s no magical number, there’s magical solution… but you need to find it.

I hate Shift button, I hate having to swap from bank to bank to access a feature, hence A LOT is MY magical number

I though Hawtin used a xone DB4, X1s and a midifighter these days?

w/e there’s no right or wrong answer. Traktor on a good system can pretty much handle more controllers than you can keep track of, but your preferences window will take ages to load! One day maybe I’ll stop being such a gear whore (unlikely), but I’ve found that I can handle 3 controllers pretty well with some duplication of controls.

Nope… a “little button device”

If you find a cure, let me know… looking for one myself too

what about this little piece of monster work

I saw him play last month and it was DB:4, two X1’s, Maschine — one laptop.

Maybe he had the DB:4 because he came on after Pete Tong who also used the DB:4?

I think the only reason you use more controllers is to have no shift buttons.

I saw hawtin on sunday night and he used 3 x1’s and maschine, and a xone 92.
im guessing two of the x1’s are for 3deck control and one for controlling maybe the finger in maschine?

I currently use a 2 channel mixer and one X1 with a custom mapping for the sample decks and transport and broswing and cue pointsm I just have to come up better filter control. I don’t like using shift functions unless there’s a light or something.

I’d say it may dependant on the capabilities of your powered usb hub along with computer specs

I use a s4 and x1, enough for me, 2 channels, 4 effects panels. Im considering to buy either a custom midi fighter or a trigger finger to use with the finger( as in the VST)

Looked like it was a CTRL X:92 as well. Using a Fireface UFX interface as well by the looks of it.

True! I have 5 Nano Kontrol’s and 4 LPD8’s I use, for the simple fact that I don’t want to deal with a shift button. It’s a very redundant set up, with 4 of the Nano’s being the exact same except for what channel they are on, and same with the LPD8’s.

I was out my face and only got shots when the camera pointed at him lol, i was wondering what that interface was all night :disappointed:

He had his Maschine there as well by the looks of it.
