Ok so i’ve decided to that maybe my best option is to build my own traktor controller for 4 decks!
I want something with really easy control of all decks (no crazy multikey bashing to switch to a different deck or function)
Something with Play, Cue, Cup, Loop in, Loop out, Loop size, FX, 8 cue points all of it X4 so each deck has it own bank of controls!
I won’t add mixer controls because thats getting a little beyond me i will just have an external mixer
My original design was pretty ghetto but for my first test of the controller it would work i was going to use a usb keyboard and solder all new controls ignorantly i assumed a keyboard had a nice little pcb with all the solder points available
Turned out to be a piece of celophane with weird stuff on it so i’ve been researching new stuff i see lots of people using gamepads but with 100 + buttons/pots its not ideal using 8/9 pads
Then i see the arcade controllers using HID im wondering whats better to use however the interfaces i have seen look like i might need 2 or maybe more to get all the controls, i think i could settle for 2 deck of controls and a shift to switch them but i would prefer 4 sets
You would have to use software that would recognise two controllers. For instance Rejoice will only let you use one controller at a time (I think), but Glovepie lets you use multiple controllers.
If you do end up using the Leo Bodnar unit use the forum, (Leo Bodnar Electronics) I found it very helpful. I used some encoders, sliders and buttons to build a 3 channel midi mixer.
The x1 was the top of my list but then i think £315 for the pair gets me control + a mixer + a soundcard it soon adds up
then i think about a midi keyboard like the akai mpk25 and using that and going for two decks with an audio 2 Dj but i like the option of having all the decks to add a little more creativity to a mix like cue juggling ontop
And with the akai if it ever came to somebody asking me to dj a party would they be like “wtf a keyboard?” i know its one of the best ways to dj to get ultimate creativity into a set but most people don’t understand that and believe “if you don’t have vinyl you’re not a dj” admitadly they would be top 40 Bs and the odd trance/techno but it would pay it off right
last saturday (like many times) a dj rocked traktor with a novation remote sl 25 at pacha buenos aires. if they go indeed wtf, then it’s them who need to change their mind, not really ur gear
