a DJ was born back in 05 in the vast emptiness of the illegal sharing net (huge sharing of music) when i discovered Marry Ann Hobbs and her Experimental show at BBC radio 1 (accidentaly downloaded a rip of her show and immeadiately started to collect them), since then i slowly going legit, one step a time. Biggest leap was a year ago when i discovered this forum, bought TPRO (and trashed the cracked T3.4), VCI 100, soon TSP and pair of 1210s followed… unlike my original plan i stuck to DnB, i wanted to do more freestyle genring but still cant really get hold of it. Meh…some day
Finally broke down to buy used 1200’s and a Vestax mixer in '92 while in College (Berklee). Started gigging fairly regularly in 1993. Not playing out as a much over the past 2 years (have a son now) and trying to hold it down more so by doing a podcast and random one off gigs/parties.
Been listening to EDM since '89 or so. Attended my first rave in '92. Didn’t start mixing until '06.
I always wanted to dj, but never gave it a try based on vinyl being the medium of choice… I knew I didn’t have the time or money to regularly search record shops for new music, and didn’t want to feel like I needed to replace all the music I already had on cd with vinyl copies. It wasn’t until a few years ago, when the combination of actually having some money to throw into this hobby, and the fact that technology was making leaps and bounds in regards to software mixing, did my long time desire to dj become a reality.
Got a BCD2000 right after they came out… wasn’t feeling the software, so demo’ed most of the software available at the time and decided on Traktor DJ Studio 3… which all led me to my current set up with Traktor Pro and a VCI-100se.
For me, DJing is all about my love of music… no grand plans to be the next big thing… I just enjoy getting to listen to and interact with my music in a way that allows me to, in essence, create something new.
been at it since i was 15-16 making rap blends and mixtapes. now i’m making dubstep+rap blends/mixtapes. and between now and then i’ve spun everything else. jesus.
first song that got me into it was Ian Van Dahl’s “Castles in the Sky” (shame is the only emotion i feel right now) in 2000. knew i wanted to DJ after i heard Future Breeze’s “Push”
