How to get echo tails on a mixer with no send-returns?

Is it possible to get echo tails on a mixer with no send-returns in some scenario? What if I plug the fx unit between the cdj and a mixer channel, apply the effect and cut the input volume on the fx unit? Would it leave a tail? Units I have on mind are Korg kaoss pad quad, Pioneer rmx1000 and probably some pedals.

Anyone?

I have a digital reverb pedal that I might be able to test this out with tomorrow/Sunday. The principle should be the same as a delay pedal, but maybe not nearly as strong.

The key thing you’re probably going to be looking for is something that potentially has a “dry/wet mix” on it. Not having used either KAOSS or RMX-1000, those look to be more ideal. The “FX depth” might act as a mix type feature, with all the way to the right being 100% FX and 0% original input but I can’t be sure of that. Lowering input volume might work as well, but I don’t know if it’ll let the existing effect dissipate.

if it affects post mixer, it will affect pre mixer. meaning if the FX unit allows you to have echo tails, it doesnt matter where you put it

If you put it post mixer you have the echo on the master i.e. both channels are affected. I need post fader kind of thing on each channel, so I could echo the outgoing track only, while keeping the incoming unaffected.

That way I’m turning the effect on and off but the track is still playing. I need to echo tail while ending the track.

okay heres what you do, set a cue point at the end of every song, and just cue sample out while bringing the channel fader down  without a send/return i dont see how this is possible without getting 2 fx units and running them pre mixer

Exactly my intention, only need to know if that works as expected.

so the only thing you will NEED to do to achieve this effect with running fx PRE mixer, is that in order to echo out, you need to pause your deck while leaving the volume fader up. the sound will be affected reguardless of where you put the machine. think about it, if you play a song out of your cdj, don’t you think you will hear the same sound out of your mixer?

Yes, that’s what I thought when started the thread. But when using a turntable you can’t pause it like a cdj, so a volume control implementation on the fx unit is important and needs to be checked in real life.

no but you can hold the record with your hand…figured this wasnt an issue for you. in your first post, you said you were going to use CDJs

Yeah, can hold it but still risky if you want precise cutoff. Anyway, would be great if someone could try this and confirm.

lol it will work

You can get echo tails on a DDM4000, or any other mixer where you can cut the input signal to the FX unit(s).

Good to hear.

Any users of Kaoss pad mini 2? How they affect the sound when used inline?

I do like the Kaoss Pad - I bet you’ll have lots of fun with 2 of 'em… Those Input Level knobs are gonna get tweaked to hell…

Shouldn’t make any difference if they are place pre- or post-mixer.

Wasn’t clear enough…Talking about Mini Kaos pad 2 now, not Quad, I’m concerned about the sound quality in general, when signal is just passed thru un-effected, because the mini has only mini trs in/out and not sure if the out is proper line level as it says “headphones” out. I’m assuming the Quad is better in this regard but is more bulky and flashes (can the flashing be turned off?).

It won’t make a difference.

There’s a guy called Beardyman that uses the Kaos pads - check him out on Youtube.

Is it possible to have the Traktor fx post fader on a mixer with no send/returns in a dvs setup with A6?
