Thinking of getting a send-return capable mixer. What would be the closest alternative for Pioneer DJM onboard effects? How’s Korg Kaoss pad quad? Can I get the same results as with a DJM mixer fx? Any others except the obvious Pioneer RMX 500/1000? Mostly interested in echo and delay.
If you looking for a typical pioneer sound, I would suggest to try a RMX unit? But if you want to stay close to the DJM onboard effects, why not just get a DJM mixer?
Or you can use guitar effect pedals. The Boss digital delay and reverb stompboxes are obvious choices, DJT has a video with a lot of Boss pedals demonstrated. Lots of techno DJ’s use the DD-7 and RV-5, have used them in the past. Sounds great. Boss has a couple of other stereo effects pedals aswell. And offcourse there are literally a millions guitar effect pedal manufactures to choose from..
Or if you use a computer, you can build an ableton effects rack. That will probably sound more ‘digital’ compared to a guitar stompbox.
RMX-1000 will be the closest to Pioneer FX, but if you’re interested primarily in an echo and delay, I would recommend a Boss pedal because you can modify the parameters better than the RMX.
The RMX is really a unique FX, not really comparable to the onboard FX of the DJM.
I want to go modular for the same price and I need only 2 channels. Basically I want the DJM fx section as a standalone unit.
No excessive use of effects, just basics.
Isn’t the Korg the thing I’m looking for?
Pedals seem to be limiting to a couple effects, kinda different from what I imagine I need.
So the benefit of the pedals is that you can use both the echo and delay simultaneously which is pretty awesome.
The Korg would certainly work, but I don’t know how good it sounds. You will just have to try it and report back to us! The YT vids look pretty good. I do think a lot of the FX on the Korg you won’t really use.
What mixer are you planning on getting? Like a Xone 62/92?
Yea, rather unfortunate since most people aren’t using 4 channels. In that case, figure out what FX you really want. Ecler filters are pretty solid so you’ve got that covered.
A lot of the FX on the Korg Kaoss I would pretty much never use. Is there a reason why you don’t want to get a digital mixer?
Check this out and see how Ean uses the guitar pedals.
Denon X1600 is my recommendation: Amazon.com Only $600 which is a steal in my opinion. The effects sound waaaay better than Pioneer’s IMO. Plus you have parameter. The only thing that sucks is no channel filters.
Or X600 if he doesn’t need 4 channels. Denon mixers are perfect match for RMX units because they have a basic set of on-board FX but a pretty good send-return loop (even the smaller X600).
Bonus points if you get a white skin for it, looks awesome
X600 is main contender but I’m looking to see if I could make a modular setup for the same price. Also hesitating due to a possible MK2 being on the way, but that’s just a guess, nothing I heard about. Denon thinned their mixer section so they could be preparing something.
My primary quest atm is for an FX unit that would work equally well as djm onboard section. Mixer and sound card are the easier part, I think I already see some options locally. Waiting some Korg kaoss users to share their experience.
There is one on ebay right now…UK, starting bid at 125 GBP
Also, consider that Denon released X600 AFTER the X1600/1700 and they still haven’t updated them with MK2 units, not to mention that any new units will probably be partnered with Serato (well, it makes no difference for the X600 since it wasn’t DVS certified for TSP, I admit) and at higher cost.
Is the x600 soundcard class compliant? Will it work with DJPP?
BTW is there some bypass mode in order to use just the soundcard and not sending the signal through the eqs and faders, like a flat phono AD conversion?
class compliant? have no idea. look it up in the manual.
you should clarify that idea about bypass mode, what signal and how do you think it’s path is now?
probably. if I had a iPad I would probably check it out to see if the USB send/return functions as it does on the new DJM-900NXS2
You had me confused because, that’s how every DVS routing works? Timecode signal from RCA inputs is going to A/D converters, sent via usb out to the sofware skipping the EQ and faders. Only the return signal from software (music) is routed back pre-EQ and faders.
