Hi everyone,
I’m a DJ based in Japan, and I’ve been working on a small iPhone app called DJLog.
The idea came from a few situations I’ve experienced many times as a DJ:
“What was that track I heard or played earlier tonight?”
“I stepped away to the restroom for a few minutes. What was that great track that played while I was gone?”
And also:
“I’m playing from USB drives or vinyl without using a computer, but I’d still like to keep a log of my set.”
DJLog uses the iPhone’s microphone and music recognition to automatically create a history of recognized tracks while you’re at a club, DJ event, or listening to a set.
That means it can also be useful for DJs who perform directly from CDJs/USB drives or vinyl and don’t have DJ software on a computer creating a history for them.
I originally built it for my own use, but I’ve continued developing it, and DJLog 1.5.1 is now available on the App Store.
My goal is not to replace Serato, rekordbox, or any DJ software.
It’s more of a small utility that runs alongside your normal DJ workflow and helps you keep a record of the music around you, especially in situations where there isn’t already a software-generated play history.
I’m especially interested in feedback from DJs outside Japan.
I’d love to know:
-
Would something like this be useful during your DJ sets?
-
Do you ever play from USB or vinyl and wish you had an automatic history afterwards?
-
What kind of information would you want saved in a DJ history/log?
-
Are there any features that would make it more useful in a real club environment?
I’m developing DJLog independently, so feedback from actual DJs would be really valuable.
DJLog is free to download on the App Store:
Thanks!
