Hi all. Two things up front: it’s vibe-coded (built entirely with AI coding agents), and it only works on desktop, not on phones (aesthetic choice).
I started DJing on turntables, and this is the tool I wish I’d had back then: https://bit-cheer.com
This is not a new idea at all, and if you want something more polished (and tested), Beatmatch PRO beatmatch.pro is great. That one is a daily challenge game; mine is more of a step-by-step practice setup.
It goes step by step, with an 8-lesson learning path and five modes:
- Foundation: match two kicks, with the BPM shown.
- Loop builder: match two full loops (many instruments, not just a kick), BPM still shown. You can build your own loops too.
- By ear: same thing, but the BPM is hidden.
- Star mode: the tempo keeps changing and you have to keep the tracks aligned.
- Pro decks: real music, either 40 Creative Commons tracks or your own files, with star mode as an option.
In every mode a coach rates your run. It’s free, and just for fun it looks like old Winamp and can wear any Winamp skin.

Is open source you can get the code here (I can only put 2 links as a new user so if any one is interested just just ask it btw is on github /fi3/bit-cheer)
What I’d really like to know: does it actually train your ears, or can you beat it by watching the screen? Where did you get stuck? If you hit audio glitches or lag, which browser and OS were you on? It should also work with a hardware mixer, but I haven’t been able to test that, so if you have one, I’d love to hear whether it does. And if you’ve taught beginners to beatmatch, I’d especially love your take.
Thanks!
