I’ve been using Ableton to DJ for a couple of weeks now and I was wondering if anybody here has used Ill.Gates Deejayeus Ex Machina DJ template? I have an APC 40 but I’m considering leaving it at home and replacing it with an MPD 26 or MPD 24. Does anyone have experience with using the template with these controllers? My main concern is navigation and clip launching. I know that it comes premapped for an M-Audio Trigger Finger, but since I’m an Ableton Newbie, deleting the mappings and remapping everything seems like it could be quite hard. Any thoughts on this?
Bump. Just got an MPD 24. I also got the Ill.Gates DJ template. Tried mapping it but it seems too confusing to map. Can someone do me a solid and help me out here?
Need to take a butchers into this … trying to get my MPD24 working nicely with Live 8 and Windows 7 x64. Getting the USB MIDI ports working would be a start :-\
While I have never used his template, I can tell you that there will be absolutely no scripting involved. Like you said, all you need to do is go into map mode, select the parameter you want mapped, and then push the button/turn the knob you want to map it to. It’s that simple. After you do that you can adjust the minimum and maximum levels (if it’s a knob or a fader), but that’s really very simple and you don’t have to do it if you don’t want.
His template is on point in every way imaginable. I purchased and installed the template yesterday on my APC40. He has taken all the stress of building effects and chaining together those affects (which takes some time) out of the production process. the only downside i have found with the template is that the BPMs need to be re-adjusted for everything you put into ableton. For some reason the BPM is set on 70 for ableton and the track that you input gets set at the same thing. You can easily fix that by adjusting the BPM on the track. Oh, there is one other problem, i am not able to preview tracks before laying them into ableton. I don’t like that since i use the preview option all the time during my sets. Otherwise Lambox is absolutely correct, there is no scripiting required as it is all done for you already. Everything you need to put on shows is pre arranged and pre mapped. I can tell you this for sure, if your not familiar with the APC40’s basic functions then using this template will add another level of confusion. Once you figure out how to use it, the sky is the limit.
Dylan is the man. One of the nicest guys you’ll ever speak to. Couldn’t be more helpful.
BUT - you do have to take some responsibility for your own learning. Although he is more than happy to help - you can’t pester the bloke non-stop.
I have some experience in this from selling UC-33e templates for a couple of years.
You need to LEARN what Bomes MT does, and how you you use it (especially for the mouseless stuff. Mouseless is the mutts nutz)… You’ll get a lot more out of the templates if you do.
Actually - everyone HERE should learn about Bomes MT. It’s the key to NEVER touching your laptop.
So Bomes is a midi translator? Forgive me but i’m about 3 months old in the Production world and i am self taught so some of this stuff is foreign to me. i intend on doing some research on Bomes when i get off work but humor me for a minute, what does a midi translator do and is it live performance type stuff?
