So i have been using Traktor for about 3 months now but i have only been able to use it on my macbook pro with no controller or anything, so as you can tell i have been pretty limited in what i can do. me and a friend have been asked to “DJ” at this school Halloween party thing and i really want to get some good starter gear to go with traktor like a good mixer and stuff but i have no idea where to start and what to look for or what is good?! this is why i need your help any suggestions or recomendations you guys could give me would be a great help!
You’ll get a ton of really valuable experience from it, even if the gig’s awful. So again, what kind of price range are you looking at? You’ll almost definitely be best off with an all-in-one midi controller. The S2’s a great place to start, and it comes with a Traktor Pro license. You can get them new for $500 retail, or less with a discount code. (Musician’s Friend is currently doing $50 off order $349 or more - $450’s a steal for a controller of that quality)
Then it all depends on what you want. $1500 could get you a pair of 1200’s, a good mixer and Traktor Scratch, or any controller currently out there. The NI controllers are going to have the tightest integration with Traktor. Pio, Vestax and Numark make some solid high-end ones, too.
Do you have the option to try them out in a store before making a decision? Hands-on time should really be the deciding factor in your choice.
$1500 is a lot of money. If I would get new gear just now I would get Novation Twitch especially if you have Traktor but then you need to learn the post-modern world of no jog wheels (which I think will happen, ultimately.)
It’s an S2 with a midi fighter classic. use the instant gratification mapping for the midi fighter. not only is it a great starter controller, your friends will think you’re a f*cking baller.
I was thinking about going down the, just go in and buy some cdjs and a mixer but i just thought i am confortable with traktor and its nothing to serious just now i will go take a look at numark and vestax thanks buddy
Assuming he wants/needs all the extra crap it comes with. Personally, I don’t see a use for $15 phono cables, $40 of colorful knobs, or $15 for “dubstep noises”. He could also put an instant gratification mapping on a dozen pieces of hardware that are cheaper and less tacky looking than a MF.
As easy as it would be to go down the pure no jog wheel controller road, there is something so basic and mesmerizing about jog wheels even if they are small and on a controller xD
