In dire need of help :O

In dire need of help :open_mouth:

Alright just to make things clear, i have searched for hours probably days for a set up that i think would suite me but so far no luck :disappointed: that is why i have finally joined this forum and decided to ask the members of the forum for some helpful advice.

Well now that thats out of the way i’ll explain my situation.
First off the only experience i ahve had with djing is at my school dance with my laptop.
My current equipment would be a MACBOOK PRO 13", Bose Quiet 15 Noise-Canceling Headphone … yea not much
The genre of music i would mix would be house music, electro-house, progressive house, trance (progressive, vocal), dubstep, DnB, and Techno soo yea mainly EDM :sunglasses:
Now my budget is under $800
My intent is to start out djing at house parties, under 18 parties to make a bit of cash here & there to later on upgrade my equipment.
My software of choice would be traktor pro 2 because i am huge effects guy
While conducting my search for the controller suited for me I was heavely attracted to the Traktor S4 drools but sadly i feel like which my beginner skill should probably try something cheaper to get the feel of djing and once i feel confident, i would progress to better equip.

So know that you know my situation please in your opinion which controller would best suit me?

Keep in consideration I need something easily mappable to traktor, and the controller must have some room for easily accessible fx controls :stuck_out_tongue: and look acceptable in a under 18 club environment

BTW some controllers i got my eye on are :
VCI 100 ARCADE
NOVATION TWITCH
AMERICAN AUDIO
RELOOP Digital Jockey 2

and possibly an add on of a KONTROL X1

I am open to any suggestions

I don’t think an s4 is out of your range at all. You can probably pick one up used. And honestly if you can afford it why not? End of the day if you are thinking S4 later on then it will save you money. Especially if thats what you really want, you will always look at your gear and be like I want to upgrade, or I feel limited sort of thing.

I don’t wanna sound like a spoiled brat or anything but my parents were willing to buy the Trakor S4 for me  but you know i am scared that i’ll buy it then not get any gigs and stuff ergo end up wasting their money, plus i am also getting into music production so that will cost me some cash too :stuck_out_tongue: so thats why i am looking for a cheaper alternative to get the hang of it first and see if i can get some small gigs first then ether upgrade to some higher quality controller in future or get some cdjs

NI is coming out with a traktor kontrol s2 which might be worth waiting for
And it should be in your price range (somewhere from $500-700)

it may just be the one for me but i know it probably won’t be shown till winter nam 2012  i was hopin to get a controller by the end of summer

wait, what? :open_mouth:

Hey, thanks for the link dude! Missed that one.

any suggestion other then s4?

The s4 is bland and uninspired. Twitchytwitchtwitchtwitch!

If you can afford a used S4, I say go for it. It’s a great piece of kit.

Or, and I think this is a great idea, is to buy an X1 or two from NI (depending on how many decks you wanna control) and get TP2 for free if you don’t have it already.

I’d go for the S4 mate, I’ve never used one myself but I’ve heard good things about it.

As long as you sort of learn how to beat match without sync, you should be alright. Because if you end up playing in a club in a few years and your equipment fails and you can’t beatmatch, you’re fucked

Heard good things about this http://www.denondj.com/DN-MC6000-P125.aspx
Its nearly the same amount of controll as an s4 and im pretty sure people have mapped it to work the same way, its smaller and cheapers though and works as a standard mixer also so you can use this when producing, not sure if you said you had traktor 2, this might cost you a bit more then the s4 and since you get it free with the s4 might be cheapers to just go straight for it.

Out of the list you gave mate I would go for The Twitch - maybe the Reloop, I have never used one but read good things about it.

If i had the confidence i would buy the S4 a heartbear  out the list of controllers i said i was interested i think the twitch would be the most appealing because it’s cheap and portable. However, the twitch lacks traktor support and i ws just wondering if people will take me seriously if i use such a small controller too. The s4, Denon- MC6000 are nice and big so they look more professional but do you think the twitch will seem professional aswell

Dude, X1s. How many decks are you planning on using?

Same with me. I like the size and how it works with both Itch & Traktor.

I like jogwheels, but I feel touch strips are just the beginning.

Dude, it’s a midi controller…

Default mappings are COMPLETELY irrelevant. I give at most a week from release that an awesome mapping is released and even if you decide not to use it you can map it to traktor to suit your preferences in an hour or two.

I am going to be using 2 decks most of the time but if their is some kind of mapping released for the twitch that can allow me to also through in sample shots then that would an added bonus but my main concern is if the twitch is going to let me insert effects quickly enough because so far the current traktor twitch demo makes it seems really crowded and confusing

btw thanks for the suggestions really appreciate you guys taking the time to help me:smiley:

Buy an x1 and see how you get on with it. See if you enjoy djing with a controller and then decide. Seems like your mind is set on the s4 so if i was you i wouldnt go near anything else. You will always want an s4 in the back of your mind and an x1 will always come in handy anyway. Its even sweeter now with the free Traktor 2 thrown in.
