I have tried to download the Ableton demo but I am having problems to install so I can’t try it out my self. That’s why I ask it to you guys.
My question is : Is it possible to load some sort of midi device on a drum rack pad that will trigger a clip from the session view if I trigger the drumrack pad.
I know it may seem a weird question. But I was thinking of buying a midi fighter for finger drumming but I want to be able to trigger an occasional loop without having to make some sort of special mapping.
Yes, it’s easy to do this. It’s easier to to just map the clip slot(s) to the notes you want (⌘+m, click your loop, tap the button you want to map it to, ⌘+m, done).
The MIDI Fighter may not be the best choice for finger drumming, especially if you’re looking to do something fancy before you’ve bought anything and have trouble with installing Ableton.
I have already installed the ableton demo once, and tested a lot of things so I now how all basic stuff works. But a few months ago I reinstalled windows for some other reason but when I tried to install it, I got some error I don’t remember anymore because it’s a while ago since I tried it, it was still ableton 8.
The reason I want to do this is because I don’t won’t to remap the controller for every project and just very occasionally trigger a loop
You could put the clip in a Sampler (in your drum rack), set up the Sampler to loop, then set the release value to however many seconds you want the loop to continue for… but you’d have to use another button to turn the clip off
botstein’s method is not so good for me because I like to have many sound packs / songs in an instrument rack to play full sets. To map a button to a loop is no good because I’d want that button to change when I change songs.
I usually hold down the button for the loop.. Anyone know a better way?
A remote script, APC40 - style, is really the way to go for loops in Ableton. There are scripts for several different controllers (QuNeo, Maschine, Push) that can control drum racks and session view simultaneously/seamlessly.
I’m looking to combine the finger drum style improvisational work with some basic loops (moombah patterns and the like). I guess I just may need to use my DJ controller or my APC to be able to do both without having to switch ‘modes’… It seems to work ok just holding the buttons too.
