I was a sound engineer for about 20 years working in recording/mixing for first 5 years, then in CD mastering and vinyl cutting after that.
In terms of the production ideas I won’t comment because I’m not an officianado of this style of dance music, but I will comment on the engineering side of the remix.
The section from about 1.50 sounds well balanced, etc. However, the track up to this point has not really been mixed. It has been remixed in regards to production ideas, but the mix from an engineering standpoint has not been mixed. The elements are not balanced well. The bass is overbearing and the vocals get masked as a consequence. Apart from the production ideas, you’ve then got EQ, dynamics (compression etc), various FX including reverb to adjust to make it a ‘mix’ rather than a conglomerate of sounds. The use of reverb is always important, anything from a small room sounds (which a bit on a snare drum can work well) through to longer plate reverbs (more likely to go on vocals or synths). Compression is important for this type of music too, and a compressor over the whole mix can help to hold everything together. It’s not something that can be learned overnight. Some great producers make crap engineers and vice versa. Nowadays the lines have become blurred between the two and since so much electronic synth and drum samples sound good out the box quite often engineering get’s neglected.
If you are happy with your production ideas try and get better at mixing. The sounds in the mix sound decent and clean, it would sound so much better if it is well balanced with good eq, comp and reverb/FX, as well as Mastered.
