As I said… I think it’s a generational thing. Live PA’s used to entail playing instruments. Back in the 90’s and early 00’s, performers who didn’t do anything but launch sequences or similar things would get completely smashed by anyone who had been into the music for more than a few years if they billed themselves as a “live PA”.
People and groups like Richie Hawtin, Hardfloor, Union Jack, and the Liberators actually played their 303s, 808s, ataris, and whatever other gear they had… live and on the spot. Similar to playing a guitar. Most people have given that up, and that’s not a bad thing. It’s also not a live PA either.

I have seen and played with some Psytrance outfits that are LIVE …PROPER!
It is really hard to do this tho…and not play ambient or minimal.
Most Live gigs I have seen are the guys playing a premade set and tweaking a few knobs.

Thing is there is a fine line between original and copied. I would classify stuff like Madeon and DJ Earworm as original, because although they have used samples from those songs, what they have been used to create sounds almost nothing like the songs they were taken from.

not to rain on your parade or anything but literally by definition, a live performance is “at an actual act of staging, or presenting, a play, concert, or other form of entertainment.”
Therefore any “the act of staging or presenting a play, concert, or other form of entertainment” is in and of itself “live” - and therefore is a “live performance.” In fact, if you want to get into real semantics, “live performance” is redundant. Performances are, by their very nature, always live.
The words you are looking for are “real-time composition.” Which, even still, the definition of -some- DJ’s would fall under. However every DJ that plays in front of a crowd is giving a “live” performance. You might argue about exactly what they are performing, but I would say they are performing the act of djing.

Skazi…mmmm…he only plays Guitar live and mixes. Its BBass that jams the synth when he plays live. But yea…thats Skazi live. both of em.

Great times. there was big brawl at Skazi, people flying everywhere. I just danced to the side happy as larry soaking up the vibe. It was intense to say the least.
