Hi guys I am going to buy traktor s4 and macbook pro. I was thinking about buying this MacBook Pro 15" Quad-Core i7 2.0GHz , but I heard that there are some issues with quad core processors and s4/traktor pro 2. Is this true and is this mbp good enough to run traktor pro 2 and s4 with all 4 decks and effects without any problems?
I also made topic on NI forum, and they told that only problem with mbp 2011 is heating issue and they think it is fixed, so I am asking you if anyone had those heating issues and how to solve it?
if your worried though, pop into an Apple store or Authorised Service Provider and get them to run the “CoolSystem” diagnostic tool on it for peace of mind
I have one and till now I’ve not had any issue with TP2 my S4 and my MBP. Actually I believe this is the best lappy I’ve ever had, and it runs everything flawlessly. You can’t go wrong with this MBP. Its the best investment I’ve ever made tech wise.
Yeah I noticed that, most of the time my 3rd and 4th core stay idle. Maybe if I run some intensive programs or graphics it will, but for Traktor it does’nt.
I’ve never experienced any heating issues. Yeah of course if you use your MBP for 5 hrs straight of Dj’ing it gets a little hot, like all computers do, but nothing to cause an alarm or stress about.
As far as I’m aware all these issues with the 2011 MBp have been fixed and now they run perfectly. I must add though that not once did I personally have any issues with mine since I’ve bought it. I guess I must be one of the lucky few hey. I also just updates to OSX 10.6.8, not that I can see any difference.
I think 10.6.8 is the OSX equivalent of Traktor Pro 1.2.7, the final version with as many bugs fixed as possible and ultra stable so they can stop work on that for good and concetrate on Lion (10.7).
It does seem surprising that Traktor cannot utilise multiple cores (it only ever uses 1), but apparently that’s something they’re working on.
(I think) That’s their solution to glitches and dropouts when there was a lot of midi traffic going on with PCs (VU meters, send monitor state, etc), read it somewhere in this forum.
send monitor state tells Traktor to update EVERY led on the controller, Windows doesn’t give a lot of priority to audio processing (before tweaking) so when a bottleneck happened >>> audio dropout.
Back on topic: you should do well with that lappy, I’m running it flawless with minimal latency with a C2D @ 2.26.
For the most part I know it doesn’t cause problems, but it does strike me that being able to use multiple cores would be a very easy way of reducing some people’s CPU troubles without having to upgrade their machine.
