Mic problem

Mic problem

so I have plugged in my mic before and it has worked and now i got a new laptop and installed s4 software and drivers etc and now my mic doesn’t work it only works if you route it to live input and use the channel d input rca , did I move something to make it not work? is there anything in my preferences to make it work again because when i route to live input the sound quality is horrible.

The inputs for c and d are line level only. You need to use the mic input.

What kind of microphone are you using?

Also, did you turn the mic volume up on the S4?

^^^ yeah, check mic vol in front and gain in back.

i have a shure PG58 ,

and i did the gain in the back and nothing also the knob on the front of the s4 and still nothing thats why im thinking its a preference problem but i don’t see anything for a mic

is a link to a video i recorded on the problem

Microphone should be plugged into the mic input, gain on channel d turned up, set the switch to thru and the microphone volume turned up.

I am using an Audix OM2 microphone and I just tested it with these settings and I am having no issues.

check the input routing of Channel D and see if it’s set to Aux. I’m at work and don’t have the access to the s4, but if i’m not wrong the manual states that by default, the mic get’s routed to the Aux channel.

check the level of the Aux. for that, you need to display the x-fader section of the screen. The Aux virtual knob is the most far right on the screen and on the XF panel.

The aux volume is the mic volume.

I think the real question is can you use your old lap top to make sure it still works as it used to? Just trying to see if it might somehow be a hardware issue.

I have done all of the above, I even read the manual all fixed my aux preferences and channel D , I have replaced the cable on my mic so see maybe if it was a short and its not ,I can’t go back to my old laptop because I no longer have it ( swtiched laptops because my old one couldn’t handle the s4 software without glitching and audio drops) //should I contact NI? because I’m assuming there is a one year warrenty right? because I really don’t know what else could be causing my mic not to work.

I’d send something out to NI. While your awaiting a reply I would take your mic and s4, and either find someone that has a s4 or a store that has a s4 on display and see if it’s ok to test it out on their set-up

So I downloaded the s4 software to my brothers laptop to see maybe if it was just my laptop but it still doesn’t work…so how to I go about contacting NI to turning it in for the warrenty
