Midi Fighter Utility worked, reset to factory, now “wrong” firmware

Hi there,

I’m trying to get a midi fighter twister working.

I downloaded the utility. Plugged in controller, did a factory reset. Then imported/Sent Gratification settings to controller as per instructions.

Opened traktor, imported tsi, set all 3 midi fighter to in/out ports.

tried to use controller…assign to deck doesn’t work, some knobs work, others partially.

Turned off traktor, tried to reconnect to midi fighter utility. Now it says I have wrong firmware and Twister isn’t in the menu on midi fighter.

Help!

Hey there,
Sorry to hear you’re having issues. Have you tried to reinstall the Midifighter Utility software?

Hi Stewe,

Thanks for the quick reply!
Ok, so I downloaded gratification mapping, which comes with installation pdf. I followed the steps in there.

  1. downloaded utility (2.63)
  2. plugged in twister
  3. loaded utility
  4. ran “factory reset” from menu because it had a custom mapping on it from previous owner
  5. sent the gratification mapping to controller
  6. loaded traktor, opened settings, set all 3 twister to in/out ports
  7. tried to use twister…couldn’t assign to a deck, some radial LEDs only go half way, clicking knob 2-2 activated knob 2-1, and a bunch of other anomalous behaviors not in the tutorial video
  8. closed traktor
  9. loaded utility again…only this time the load screen now says "Midi controller detected, wrong firmware. select firmware from dropdown to proceed
  10. midi fighter twister is NOT in the dropdown menu

I just reinstalled Utility, same prompt at load screen. Midi Fighter twister is not listed…

In that case please try to manually install the recovery firmware. You can find the instructions by following this link:

Out of the interest which OS and version do you have on your Mac?

Mac OS 10.9.5

I think the problem was that I had my s8 plugged in while trying to connect Twister to utility.

Ok, I had a friend help me work through it all again and it looks like its working mostly? I don’t know what the expected behaviours for every knob is so maybe what I’m seeing is whats supposed to be.
I’ll refer to knobs by row-column
if I turn knob 2-1 to 2 oclock on the radial dial there is a single LED on. If i click knob 2-2 (regardless of where its turned to), the LED on knob 2-1 immediately jumps to the 12 oclock position.
Also, some of the parameters don’t seem to go all the way, like I can’t turn down the beatmasher on 4-1 all the way to 0…
and the other behaviour I thought was supposed to happen is that when you click a side button, you then get to select which deck its assigned to at least in Ean’s video, it looked like 4 quadrants appeared on the twister indicating a deck, but that never comes up and I can’t seem to figure out how to tell if an effect is assigned to a deck or not unless I look at traktor. You have to hold the side button down, and click to assign to deck.

Thank you for the link to manually recover firmware.

Thanks for help, I’m gonna go play around and see whats up.
