Minimal is nice for people who know how to dance because the E-Tards cant jump around like it’s a concert. ![]()
Listen to Magda’s Fabric 49 CD. There is some awesome minimal in there, all different types too.
This song made me understand the subtle buildups and flow of great minimal:
DJ Koze - Let’s Help Me
I’m not bothered how ‘cross genre’ it is. I don’t care how many techno, tech house or electro DJs hammered it also. It was more a great DJ tool than anything else - you could put it behind ANYTHING.
My point is that a lot of minimal producers, DJ’s and clubbers have this down as one of the seminal ‘minimal’ tracks. I know an entire semi-generation of minimal clubbers who will go misty eyed if this comes on. Which is why it was the first thing that sprang to mind when the OP asked the question.
We’ve got it on vinyl in my house. I keep on threatening to defenestrate the bastard - I don’t even like the track. I have to hide the record so my flatmate won’t play it.
I prefered the stuff with a discernable melody tbh…
One of his worst tracks I’d say
Just trying to find something recent ‘for the kids’. Glad you ain’t my Nephew

Concrete genres are disappearing, as dj I can easily get tired of mixing a whole set with the same music again and again, also producers are creating tracks with loops and parts from different styles, blending them together and coming out with tracks that do not easily fit into one genre.
Take for instance producers like Facundo Mohrr or Guy Gerber, sometimes you can think progressive, some other minimal techno or techhouse. As music evolves old names die and they are constantly replaced by new ones.
On the other side of music there’s something called maximalism which is a blend of diferent styles, not something I would spin but it serves as a good example of the constant creation that happens in music.
Ha! Wasn’t really arguing per se, but I find it funny that you’re trying to “enlighten” some one about a scene you’re not even into anymore
= p
Cheers!
@Nicholas: yeah, you are right about genre-bending
@nephew… yes, I did edit my last post, can’t resist… If you’d care to do some enlightening I’m always looking for some - let’s have some tunes!

Sorry can’t find this streaming anywhere… Bentobox - Talkback
All this “labeling” is getting old. A good DJ takes great tracks regardless of “genre” and, hopefully, mixes them together seamlessly. I find DJ’s that are too “genre specific” tired and boring. Just my opinion, of course.
@SirReal: touche, as always:
Take this; I’d say this was deep house, with the minimal aesthetic (and the bassline reminds me of Bukem era d&b)
BTW I think “Vocal Chords” is a great track and definitely has it’s time and place in a set. @ Pizzle - I like your style and thx for your contributions to the site.
Nephew, why you trying to bust everyones balls… its evident that no one here has the supreme understanding of minimal that you so clearly posses. I think it maybe best you keep your negativity to a minimum… if you cant manage that then maybe you should just start communicating with the odd beep and blip…
Beep…blip…beeep…blip!
@xolunt… all good, we are just having a discussion anyways… I just hope he posts a few tunes… I’m always picking up hot tips from these forums
I honestly believe that all these genres have surfaced because the web sites that sell the stuff need to steer you to a general area for what you’re looking for. There’s a lot of crap out there, so I guess with more genres you can spread the crap evenly amounst them
There should just be three “genres”… Tha Shit, Good Shit and plain old Shit. Hmmmm, maybe I need to pay a “Selecta” ![]()
